new member My name is Lorraine. I got my first Yorkie about 5 weeks ago. I had always wanted one but never was sure how to handle the long hair and shedding. Only recently did I find out that they really DON'T shed. That's all I needed. I began my search and found a precious little female that I have named Sophia and call Sophie. I liked her the first day I got her and after a week, I was hopelessly in love with her. I have a lot of questions that I am sure some of you experienced owners can answer. I would like to begin with this one. Her sire is a 3 pounder and her dam is a 7 pounder. My first trip to the Vet for check-up and shots was at 8 weeks and she weighed 2 pounds. The second trip (at 12 weeks) she weighed 3.1 pounds. At approximately what age do they reach maturity as far as growth goes and is there any way now to know what she will weigh as an adult dog? I appreciate anyone that can answer this question for me. Thank you. I will talk again later. |
welcome! cant wait too see pictures. Its hard to guess how much Sophie will weigh. There are many charts out there that will guesstimate a weight. |
Hello and welcome to YT!!! Congratulations on your new baby. : ) I would guess her to be around 6 pounds or so, but there is really no way of knowing for sure. Some stop growing sooner than others. Can't wait to see lots of pics! |
Congrats. Yorkies are great!!! I would think all dogs are different, but my Sophie weighed 4 lbs at 4 months, and is now around 6.5 lbs. |
Welcome and congratulations. I would guess your baby will be 6 lbs or under too. |
Congratulations, whats your babies name? Welcome to YT. |
Welcome to YT. You are now in love with Sophie like you have never been in love before!!:) |

:exclaim:Congratulation & Welcome:exclaim: |
Welcome and congrats on your darling Sophie! I would guess her to be around 6 pounds...maybe a little under. I guess only time will tell! |
:congrats: On your new puppy!! And Welcome to the board!! |
Congrats. I got my baby not so long ago as well. Accordingly to my research, their adult weight should be twice the weight they're at during 12 weeks. I hope that help =] |
Hi and Welcome to YT! My Duncan was under 3 pounds at 14 wks and now at 4 yrs old he is 6 pounds and to me this is still small, but I also have a 3 yr old boy Bear that is also lil under 6 pounds but totally different body that you would never think this two were the same weight. So weight is just a number they all carry it differently.... or at least thats what I keep telling myself....lol :yelrotflm Don't worry about the weight there are some Beautiful over stander size yorkies here, I myself love to look at those threads were YT members show pictures of their larger yorkies. The main thing is that you have a Healthy puppy and if you do more reading around here you will see why this is the main thing you want out of any pet you love. West Wishes, |
Wellcome aboard. Get a nice comfortable chair for in front of your computer as you are going to be spending a lot of time there. Congrats on the new baby, you have many years of joy ahead. |
