Hi!! its been a long time coming but we have our baby! he is actually not a baby, the former owner said he is 10 months old. His name is Benji and he is the greatest dog ever! We found benji on craigslist and i fell in love with him. although i am not sure if he is purebred yorkie, the former owner said he is but has yet to give us papers. Benji is a larger yorkie at about 10lbs and his coloring is almost a rust color. any experts out there tell me if he looks like the norm for a yorkie? does he look purebred (i know that may be hard to tell) i do not care we love him. and craigslist can be decieving. i just want someone elses input.

Sure is cute and who cares if he is a purebred or not as long as you love him.

Very cute and congratulations - and welcome !

Craigslist IS deceiving but he looks happy and loved - and you're happy - that's what counts....
his coloring is very striking

Benji is one handsome little guy. Purebred or not I am no expert, all I can say is he is adorable. Congrats on your new baby and welcome to Yorkie Talk :)

Thanks guys. we have definately hit the jackpot. Benji seems to be adjusting. He is great with my 3 boys. he is unaltered but am taking him to the vet today to have him heart worm tested, rabies and a consult to have him neutured. The former owner promised his vet records also and its been two weeks and i have yet to see them. i cannot have him groomed without proof of rabies. and she hasnt cashed our check yet and wont answer her phone. hopefully the vetrenarian gives benji a clean bill of health. i still cannot get over how lucky i was to find benji! and i hope to get to know all of you and your babies too! thanks for the warm welcomes.

Welcome. You'll love this site. I know I've found all sorts of great information on it. We're not sure whether our Charlie is a purebred or not either. We were told he was, but the vet thought maybe not. And he's going to be on the bigger side as well. But, like, you, we just love him to pieces, and that's what counts.

He is just adorable! You sure did hit the jackpot with Benji. His coloring is beautiful. :)

My suggestion would be to have the vet check him for a chip today when you go. If he is not chipped you can have that done along with the neuter. :) As for his shots many states charge more when a dog is not neutered so it might be best to wait until his surgery and have it done then. I know in IL it is triple the amount for unaltered dogs. He can always wait to be groomed for a few weeks if you give him a nice bath and brush/comb him.

That is so odd that the woman hasn't cashed your check..........actually it is odd that she even accepted a check from a CL ad. :confused:

Well he looks awful cute to me!! Congrats! He reminds me a lot of my Mindy who is 10 pounds, they look a lot alike in the face. I doubt Mindy is purebred but it doesn't matter. We took Mindy in as a "rescue", re-homed her 2 times and neither worked out so now she is here to stay.

She has issues that me and hubby seem to be the only ones that can deal with..LOL.. So I continue to still work with her but she needs prozac or something, she is a little OCD:rolleyes::D

I am glad you found Benji and he found you;) I really love his coloring and his coat. Just a doll! here is a pic of Mindy

He really looks like a "Benji", he is sooo cute. He also has a face very much like my 5 mth old girl Neesa. I saw her mom and she is also supposed to be purebred. I really doubt it, she is so long in the body that I tell people she is a "Dorkie" daushound x yorkie. If I say she is full Yorkie I get those "oh really" looks. I don't even care, she is my sweet not so little girl (8 lbs at 5 mths). If you really want to find out you can have her DNA tested. It's very inexpensive (about $50 up here in Canada) and they will be able to tell you exactly what she is.

unfortunately those tests are not conclusive. They only have DNA markers for a small amount of breeds.. about half, maybe a little more of all breeds. I know some people who have had it some (a few people) and they were never conclusive.. So kind of a waste of money..

it doesnt matter if benji is purebred. we love him! he is right for our family and just fits ;) i was told he was. but the way his tail sits and his color he almost looks like a pomeranian from behind. only his hair is very silky. I am having him groomed because i doubt the lady who had him before ever did. i just dont understand why we have yet to recieve vet records. Its got me thinking maybe he wasnt as well taken care of as i thought. Benji is 10 months old. looks healthy, is fully housebroken and great with children. he doesnt seem to have been abused and is really a playful little guy. I would love to have benji a little playmate at some point. I found a female yorkie at a humaine society nearby but by the time i got to her that next day she was gone. our humaine society euthanizes over 80% of dogs brought there. i would love to get into some type of rescue work i am afraid id want to keep them all :). thank you for all the warm welcomes, all of you seem so kind. yes benji has found his forever home and i have a new son. its very exciting.
