Help Help, I'm a newbie. Our Gidget is being spade & I am worried about how to care for her when she comes home. |
Welcome. I know how scary it is when our babies have to go in for surgery. First I would always have the pre surgical blood work done. This will help determine that they can handle the anesthesia. Your vet will give you specific instructions on after care when you pick her up. Usually, the night they come home they are pretty sleepy and may or may not want to eat. I put a baby onsie on mine to protect the incision and stop them from licking it. You will be surprised how quickly they bounce back. Then you have to try an keep them from jumping. I always like to be home the day after their surgery to watch them. I will keep Gidget in my prayers for a safe spay. |
Help Thank you! I never would have thought of onesi. I am really worried about her jumping too soon. She is so fiesty. Thanks for the prayers, I appreciate it. |
Welcome to YT. I totally understand how you are feeling. Bailey is getting spayed on Wednsday. I am worried about her. She is only 2 1/2 lbs. I would wait until she is older but we are moving and I really trust my vet so I want her to do it. I will keep your little on in my prayers. It will be ok. I ordered a Kiss E Collar from Hot Rods Mom here on YT to keep her from licking her incision. Bailey is too little for a onesie. I know it is hard to keep these little ones down but just give lots of love and all will be ok. |
Hi! thanks I will add your Bailey to my prayers! Gidget is bigger, 5 lbs, she is 8 mos. I agree about your vet, we love our vet, we found him when we moved here & our Ebbie was 16, the vet treated her like his own from day one until we had to let her go at 17 1/2. I know the value of a good vet, God's hands for our babies. Best wishes to you. |
I understand your anxiety. My Ruby was quite fiesty from the time they brought her out at the vet. She also managed to get both stitches out. If need be, Gidget can have quiet time in her crate. Sending special thoughts your way. And also, special thoughts going out to Bailey, too:) |
Thank you Thank you all for your advise, concern & prayers. I just left her at the vet & they will call me later & tomorrow she will come home. Now I must buy a onesie, to prepare for her recuperation time. Thanks again, this is a great site. |
Welcome to YT! I will say a prayer for Gidget! I've had all 3 of mine spayed, so I know that nervous feeling. When you go to pick up Gidget, be sure they send some pain meds home with you. I used onesies on them and besides keeping them from licking the incision, they look so cute. I cut a hole for the tail. It's amazing how quickly these little ones bounce back after surgery! |
Welcome to YT!! Your Gidget will be fine. Pixie was done at 4 months old and was about 2 1/2 pounds. She never licked the stitches and was pretty quiet the next day. Never used any kind of collar to keep her from licking. My vet said that it would hurt her to lick them, as a matter of fact it helps in the healing. However, I did stay home the next day to watch her to make sure she doesn't jump. Good Luck and I know Gidget will be find. We'll keep her in our prayers. |
Praying for Gidget as she goes thru her spay surgery. I will be needing to spay my pomeranian the end of this month or sometime in June. And next once Princess is old enough, she will have her spay surgery. Princess is only 3 months old now. Great tip about the baby onesie. I will make sure I have one for both of my puppies when they have their surgeries. |

Thanks for the prayer! The vet called this afternoon & said she was doing well. I had to go out of town so that was comforting. I looked at your dresses they are adorable!!! How do you get your girls to wear them & don't they matt? Gidget isn't very ladylike,, she struggles to take even a bow off. Your girls are so sweet & perfectly coiffed, what's the secret? Please share!! |
