Hi. I'm new here! Hi all, I just found this forum and it's awesome! My baby is a Yorkipoo, I hope that's okay on the Yorkie forum as I've really enjoyed reading this forum so much already. :) We've had Opi 2 months now. She is almost 6 months old and weighs just under 3 pounds. I just love her so much!! She is my little girl. It's a good things my kids adults...keeps them from getting jealous! lol I came on here is search of ideas for making her food. She's either really picky or may possible be having acid troubles in her tummy. Not only has she been vomiting, she is the pickiest & refuses to eat. I have never been through anything like this with our big girl Riley, I thought all dogs ate everything and anything don't they? lol Anyway, after trying a few different premium foods, wet and dry. sitting with her to eat, feeding her kibble by kibble, mushing liverwurst in her food, dripping liquid from canned tuna....everything short of standing on my head try to get her to eat, our vet had us start her on a chicken and vegetable diet this past weekend. The vomiting has stopped so far and she's eating every last bit!!! but, we are only into the 3rd day. I just want to make sure we do it right, make it healthy and enjoyable. He mentioned she will need supplements. Since we've had her we've been giving her Nutri-cal for her sugar levels I guess as he warned us that low blood sugar can be a problem. Well, I've written a novel....I'll stop for now and keep reading. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions on so many aspects of my little girl. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. Sounds like you have things well in hand. Are you cooking for her or do you have her on a dog food of chicken and vegetables? |
Welcome to YT! Hope you enjoy it here. So much to learn about w/tons of info. Some of these dogs are fussy eaters. I'm finding Roxy to get bored with the same thing every day. I rotate to another brand for awhile, then go back to a brand that agrees with her. It keeps her interested. Otherwise she has a good appetite. She often doesn't want to eat till later in the day. I don't worry about it unless we are going to be on the go with her most of the day, or it's her day to go to day care. She burns too much energy to let her go to day care without eating first. Then I dr her food w/a bit of canned food. If Opi is healthy otherwise, she may be vomiting just because her tummy is so empty. The vomit wouldn't consist of food though. It would be more liquid yucky looking stuff. |

Welcome. |
Thanks for the welcome!!! I'm not sure if I'm supposed to reply to each individual post.. We are cooking her food for her. The doctor said no "pet" food. We've just done chicken, carrots and rice. We actually stopped the rice, since her bowels were very loose. But, thinking about it now, isn't rice supposed to be binding? Maybe it was just the change in diet? I do wonder if she just needs a change every few days with how finicky she's been, we are only into day 3 of this, but when we've tried different things before and they worked we got so excited but it only lasted a few feedings. Her tummy must have been empty, her vomit was always a yucky liquid. :( |
She's small, so her tummy may be getting empty - going too long between feedings? If so, just feed her a snack at night so she won't get empty. |
Welcome! I am a new Mommy to a sweet little Yorkie puppy also. We have had her one month as of today. At first, "Princess" was a very picky eater also. Had to actually hold her food dish to get her to eat anything. Little by little she has begun to eat on her own and will now clear her food dish of food. I made sure I gave her NutriCal each day to make sure she did not get hypoglycemic. We have had to make a change in puppy food which resulted in her not being such a picky eater. This brings back memories of when my oldest 2 children were picky eaters. LOL!!! |
