Don't worry about being rude if someone didn't even have the manners to ASK you - That's an accident waiting to happen and it only takes a split second for them to lose their grip - so BE BLUNT - they'll live

I've never had that problem - I've let people hold mine but only when they
ASKED and I was able to tell them they wiggle so be very careful -

if they just grabbed one of mine they'd know in a hot minute I don't like it and neither do my girls - they love being held by people they know but not strangers

I just tell anyone who even looks like they might want to pick Ally up - Please do not pick her up, she is just to fragile and does not like being picked up. Seems to work for me and our little Ally.

Excellent suggestions! Even if they don't apply to your dog you could still say these things to keep obnoxious people away.

Ugh, I HATE that. Some girl snuck up behind my boyfriend and I at the pet store and started petting my pup who was IN my purse without even asking us. I saw her hanging out around us at first, but she literally walked around us and then back to pet him, like she was trying to be sneaky! How rude! I think it's super inconsiderate to touch other people's things without even having the decency to ask, and I really have no patience for people without manners. You can just ask! Sheesh!

I have a very strict no picking up rule, Sophie Kate is a wiggler and I use that as the reason (and I think its valid).

Last year at our local Farmers Market this little old man saw Sophie Kate in my sling and he made a bee line over to pat her head. I thought it was cute, like a drive by petting. Most the time people are very polite and will ask if they can pet her.
