Mexican~Yorkie Jumping Bean I've been on here for a couple of hours trying to find some info on calcium. I read a few months ago about a product that people were giving their FB ... a calcium product I believe. While searching I was amazed and alarmed to see so many posts by people whose FB had broken a bone :eek:. How do you keep them from jumping on furniture and jumping down? She is up and down like a yo-yo or Mexican jumping bean. Let me also add that my husband does not adhere to any advice I give about feeding or most anything else for that matter. My best bet is to try and communicate with my FB as I think she would be easier to reach :D. I hate to leave him alone with her because his philosophy is... anything goes. If I try to discourage her from jumping on chairs, sofa etc. he will call her up. I know some people have built ramps but how realistic is that? You can't have a ramp on every piece of furniture in the house. Are there certain vitamins, minerals or foods I can give her to try to reduce the possibility of ever having to deal with broken bones?? Thanks |
Is she a tiny yorkie? Most of them look look like ping pong balls bouncing around the rooms of their homes. It's just their nature. I have always given mine Pet-Tabs, a vitamin and mineral supplement. I've never had any broken bones, but my present yorkie tried to be an acrobat in her fenced yard. She turned wrong and it popped her right rear knee ligaments in two.:( So, off to the orthopedist and she had surgery to repair that and you'd never know it happened. Actually, it was my last yorkie that I would have thought something like that would have happened to and not this one. So, you just never know. |
My living room furniture is butted up to each other in an L shape. So all I need is one set of stairs, and they run up/down and across the furniture. I have another set of stairs at the foot of my bed. The boys will jump up/down on the furniture occasionally, but never the bed. If Bella's on the couch and I take the stairs away, I've effectively isolated her: she will NOT jump down. The boys are sturdier; Bella's fine boned, so it's good. I guess I subconsciously arranged my furniture in a pattern that suits them as well as me. |
I feel your concern. My Ruby is crazy wild. My eyes can't even keep up with her when she starts running wild in the house. Run, jump, run, jump, on and on and on. It's not like she doesn't get out for her romps either. I don't know what to do either, so I'll be interested to read the advice on this post. |
I consider her to be tiny... she was at the vets a couple of weeks ago and weighs 2.10 at 7 months. I expressed concern over her weight as she was the exact same weight the time prior to this last visit. The vet told me not to worry about it gave me some AD Hill?? a supplement similar to Boost or Ensure to add to her food or give her in a syringe if she's not eating. Anyone know what the calcium product is some people use? |

I'm a big believer in the plain yogurt for my babies. I just mix a spoonful in with the dry food once a day. I've tried the cottage cheese and they gave it the cold shoulder- maybe it was the texture. Supplements can actually cause damage if given during the puppy stage. The extra calcium can make the bones grow larger, but with out the density required to keep them strong. You can google the studies. Over calcium supplementation has been linked to hip dysplasia and several other bone disorders. Tums is just calcium carbonate, but it doesn't have the phosphorous or Vit. D that the body needs to absorb it properly. |
i have a little one and she uses ramps and yes i have one on every piece of furniture the couch the love seat the recliner the plush rocking chair my bed my guest room bed and both the kids beds they dont take up room and she cant jump up on something just down so if i take away the ramps she is stuck on the floor unless someone sits down then she will crawl up your legs |
Thanks for sharing everyone. I'll try the yogurt.. I already know she digs cottage cheese but I didn't think you were supposed to give it to them everyday. |
