Dog Food
 
Since my daughter and I now have our yorkies Desi and Maddox I wanted to ask what is a good food? The breeder said Eukanuba Puppy and thats what we our feeding them. I give them some with alittle natural yogurt and then free feed them the rest of the day with a few pupcorns as a treat. I don't want to have a overweight dog and I am open to any suggestions.

Well, some people say that's not a good food, but I am beginning to be of the opinion that if they are eating a kibble and like it that we should leave well enough alone. It seems that people sometimes, not always, run into trouble by switching their food and sometimes, not always (again) create a picky eater. Lots of people have been raving lately about Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, though, and it's a good food. Also, Innova EVO. I'll let others give you some opinions, because all yorkies are different. :D

Although Eukanuba promotes itself as a quality brand, it's really not that great. Just read the ingredient list. The best way to go is to read the ingredients. Corn is not good for dogs and often causes allergies. Meat By-Products are also worth avoiding, along with preservatives. Look for Chicken or Chicken Meal, Lamb or Lamb meal, etc. There is a LOT of information on the internet about quality dog foods.

Some good brands are:
Wellness
Innova
California Natural
Chicken Soup
Canidae
Natural Balance Ultra Premium (which is available at PetCo)

Others will add more I'm sure. Basically anything you can buy at Petsmart or the grocery store is not the best. We have some smaller stores that carry the good brands as well as a store called Pet Supplies Plus. www.petsuppliesplus.com

Royal canin yorkshire terrier or puppy 33. is really good. I switched my four month old Tigger over to it from Nutro Natural Choice which is also really good (all natural with added vitamens and minerals, no by products.) because it was drying to his skin. his coat looked good, but his skin didn't. Royal canin puppy33 has helped improve his skin tons, his coat is so soft and silky and shiney oh my gosh is it shiney!!! I can't say enough about it, and he loves it!!! I highly recommend it.
