What should I do to puppy proof my house? Does anyone have a good website with guidelines? Can you guys post some tips specific to Yorkies? Thanks. |
Hmmmm... I would suggest you get down on your hands and knees and look at things from a puppy-perspective. See what's down there that might be interesting to get into. I bought 2 baby gates so that I could block her out of the bedrooms. I covered my heating grates (mine are set into the floor) with mesh so that her little feet (or toenails) couldn't get caught in the holes. But mine doesn't really get into much. She has never shown any interest in electrical cords or stuff like that. So I think the best thing is to watch carefully and deal with problems as they come. I had to put bitter apple spray on some of the doorways because she was chewing those during her teething period. But stuff like that just depends on the dog. |
Puppies will try to chew and play weith anything they can get their little mouths on. Electric cords, computer cords, carpeting, pens, pencils, marbles, plants, shoes, clothes, socks, woodwork, bottles. Make sure to keep cabinets closed tight that have cleaning supplies, or other chemicals in them. Anything that drops on the floor is interesting to them, so always check the floor where you are going to let them loose. the best way to keep them safe is to keep them in an x-pen when you are not in the same area as they are. |
