How do you travel with your dog? Does your dog fine sitting at the back of the car? What do you do to prevent anxiety? |
Mine travel in their sturdi bag which gets buckled into the seat... www.PetCarrier.com :: SturdiBag Pet Carriers :: SturdiBag™ Extra Large Divided They each have their own side which I put a blanket and toy in. I do nothing to prevent anxiety... they are fine in the car. On long trips, I make sure to stop frequently for pee breaks and water and also to give them a chance to stretch their legs. This summer we drove 12 hours each way and they were fine. :) |
im lucky. maddie loves to go bye bye. she lays still in her bed while in the truck-and dont move around. she now has a carseat that shes trying to adjust to. i think being higher up in the truck will take alittle getting used to. |
I usually take a favorite blanket, some toys, and use a couple of Snoozer carseats. The really like to sit upfront in the Console seat though since it has the best view and its closest to mommy and daddy :) |
My girls sit in their carseat strapped in so if we stop fast they won't go flying. They lay or sit they can move freely in the seat but can't get out of the seat... Madison was nervous at first going in the car. She was 6 mos old when we got her and had only gone in a car to go to the vet. so it took her a few months to get used to the car. But she and Lexie both do fine now. |
We took the munchkins to florida in March (12 hour ride) I have a booster seat for them and they were absolutely wonderful! it sits up high s they can see out the window...My vet told us to give 1/4 tsp. baby bendryl, so it would take anxiety out of the equation, not drug them up, and it worked GREAT! they really enjoyed the trip. |
ZZ used to just lay in the seat, but then I got a new car and it only has two seats and she won't ride unless she has her carseat with toys and chewies! =) |

I had a vet prescribe the correct dosage for drammamine. I tried it once didn't like the way her eyes were all glassed over. I'm blessed they do well in the car. The longest was a 7 hr trip each way. we stop every 60-90 mins to let them out and walk pee and get a drink of water. |
Ellie happily sits or lays (or climbs:rolleyes:) in her carseat. No car anxiety here. :) |
Rhett has a carrier that I strap in. He loves going in the car; settles right down to sleep as soon as the carrier is zipped up. |
Copper loves to go in the car. As soon as I take one of his harness vests out he is jumping around like a maniac. I use a dog car seat. I put his blanket in it and attach the clip to his vest. Since his vaccinations are not totally complete, we have only been to the vet and McDonalds drive through. Ok, I give him bits of hamburger without onion of course...bad mom I guess...:rolleyes:but I wanted him to get used to the car for short trips before we take any long ones. He was a little anxious the first few times in the car seat, but now he loves it! Good luck with your baby!:) |
Callie has a dog carseat and it has a strap that hooks to her harness and at first she would try to climb out but I would say no and put her back in and she got the hang of it. Now if I open the car door she jumps in the car and goes over to her carseat and jumps in. She loves watching the cars and things but she eventually lays down and sleeps. You should always have them buckled in some how because just like humans they can get really hurt in an accident. |
