my yorkie pup is vocal and stand off ish I just picked up my little 8 week old bundle of joy on saturday (2 days ago) and the breeder told me that he was the crier of the litter and the biggest one. she also said that he likes to bite and squirm. My worries are that when I pick him up he is fine in my arms, but when I try to pet him or pick him up when he is down he gets scared or backs away. Are these early signs that Bently is not going to bond well with me? also, how can I tell the difference between play biting and a defense? And how can I stop hard play biting? thanks =]:D |
A lot of these little guys do the backing away thing. My Bogie always has. It is like he is afraid, even though I know he isn't. There was a thread awhile back about this same thing. Mostly it is just a Yorkie thing. Oh and welcome to Yorkie Talk :) |
Don't really know Don't really know what his behavior means, but my pup who was 12 weeks old whe I got her was pretty standoffish for the first week to 10 days. Her tail stayed down and seem like such a calm chill pup. After that she perked up and is quite the little pistol, but she still however is not the 'fawning' type of pup like many Yorkies are. I could get my feelings hurt if I wanted the type pup who wants to please me 24-7. :animal36 Still there is no money in the world to pry her from my arms. |
its good to hear that my Bently isnt the only one that backs away from me =] I just want him to love me haha but who doesnt? i bought him a chew toy which has helped with his biting but for now i think I just need to wait it out and discipline when he bites hard. I can honestly say that the moment my eyes laid on him, I was a goner. I hope that we bond more and he gets to be loyal and loving. :) |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...t=backing+pick click on this link it is the thread I was telling you about |
Yeah...my little one is almost 9 yrs old and she still does the backing away thing but only at certain times like when I am going to work and she knows it's time for her to go to her ex-pen. At which time she will back up and then take off running. Other times she wants me to pick her like when it's bedtime and she wants to get in the bed or when I am on the computer and she wants me to lay in my lap. So for Brandi, it's just a matter of what you want to pick her for will determined when she starts backing up. |
