Funny yet bad. My little guy Moto is the kind of dog who has to "work" his bed before he can lay down. By work I mean scratch at it till hes content it's dead. In most cases this doesn't bother me. But lately we have a small problem. Moto gets into snuggle mood when it gets later at night so we pick him up and let him snuggle on our laps. Well tonight I was doing some stuff in the kitchen so my wonderful husband picked up Moto and started to snuggle with him. Well Moto started to "work" his bed by digging at my husbands (ill let you use your imagination). My husband picked him up and told him not and sat him back down. A few minutes later he really got aggressive with trying to "work" what he felt was gonna be his bed. At this point my husband said that habit has got to be nipped in the butt now... So now I feel like I have to stop him every time he works his bedding. Any other ideas I could try? |
OMG trying not to laugh.:lol tears |
Kimbo used to "make up his bed" like that all the time when he was a baby. Now he only does it when he's very tired. He sort of whines like a tired baby who's fighting his sleep as he frantically digs around and turns his little circles. Really hilarious to watch. Tell your hubby to fold up a small blanket or throw and put it in his lap. I keep a blankie handy to put on my lap if I'm wearing shorts. I want to protect my skin from scratches, but at the same time, I want my sleepy baby to have a comfortable place to sleep. |
All I can say it that once he starts to really grow on your husband "working his bed" will be just fine. We have 3 and they are all over my husband. They all even get kisses when he walks in the door from work  Tonight he was laying on the couch watching TV~Pebbles was on his chest, Bogey was across his arm and Dbugs was between his legs. It was a puppy blanket :D He works in Downtown Chicago and drives a Cement Mixer. Just about every day I get a Yorkie report. Puppy coat, full coat, what they were wearing, mad if they were being walked on a collar vs harness, wearing boots in the winter..............just wait yours will be a convert too. :D |
You're right, it is funny but not!! |
Hopefully he'll grow out of it somewhat... instead of 'no' I think just to place him in his bed would be good... maybe he'll learn the difference. |
haha, I agree! Funny, but at the same time, so bad...especially for you guys out there :) Joey does this too, but never on my husband or me. Whenever it gets annoying, we just say "Joey!!", and he pretty much just stops, lays down, and gives us a look like, "come on, I was trying to get more comfy, you jerks!". I think my dog has ocd...he also has to do like 10 prep jumps every time he gets on the couch. Anyways...I would say that he doesn't have to always stop, I think it's one of the things that is instinct - wild dogs do it in their dens, too. I would say that if he's doing it somewhere he's not allowed, he needs to be told no, and moved. Eventually I think he will get the point and learn where that is and isn't allowed :) Good luck! |
Sandy does that to his bed when he's going to sleep. His bed is next to ours. When the light goes off, we'll hear him scratching the blanket and he stops within a few secs and sleeps till the next morning. Sometimes he wants to be picked up so that he can sleep on our laps, we'll make sure putting his blanket on the laps. He's doing what we call 'digging business' before he finds a perfect spot and falls asleep. |
i think the best would be to keep a pet bed by the couch or chair and when he dose this say no and place him in it i also like the idea of a blanket on the lap |
He was just trying to get the lumps out of his bed.:p |

Rosie does this all the time, but only on her bed. She moans constanly while doing it too, a girls work is never done. |
:lol tearsSo funny , not for hubby though. Tia does it at night when I put her to bed but instead of working her bed all the way she wines a little for me to puff it up for her. She is such a diva princess lol |

I keep a bed pillow by they couch and when I want them to settle down, they will--Hot Rod mostly, will jump up there and "make his bed" and crash. He will even bring his bully or toy lamb to gnaw on up there. I get the cheapy pillows from Walmart or like $2.50 and have several around for this purpose. While I am sewing my kiss-e collars, Hot Rod is even asleep on one across my lap. I told hubby that I want him to snap a picture of it so I can post it. :p |

My girls do this too, to my bed. They consider my bed their bed, since well all sleep in it together at night. They've never done it to me though... I always tell them to pick me up Chinese on the way back home :p Good luck with your little digger! |
