Do you have to Reg. AKC? I'm wondering if or what the benefit of reg. a dog you have no plans of breeding or showing. I have my puppies papers to turn in, but heres the thing, I don't know why I would want to. To me those papers told me he was breed by two a.k.c. dogs and he should be of some quality...(what level is always questionable) and it doesn't really matter what quality he is as long as he's healthy. I also have a JRT that is akc and I never turned in those papers either b/c she was also fixed and never shown. Should his papers be filed anyways for some type of benefit in the long run? So have you haven't you and why or why not? |
Pebbles is AKC but I never turned in her papers. I really didn't see the point since I am not a breeder, believe in spay/neuter and didn't plan to hang it on my wall. ;) Now if you said that you wanted to register to support the AKC then I would say that is a different reason to register. Maybe others have a different opinion on registering and I look forward to hearing what others think as well. :) Wanted to add that he is adorable :p |
I sent Sadie's in although she was spayed. I never have registered mine before. The only reason I did this time is we participate in obedience and agility (at this point for fun only). My breeder thought it would be nice if we ever do compete to have her kennel name on her just in case she ever turned into the next super dog. :D |
Don't have to One benefit is support for AKC, but also they register their number in there companion dog recovery register and will send a tag with the akc number and a number to call if you find a lost dog. |
I have 3 dogs. My yorkie is akc registered though she is spayed and never want to do any kind of show things. I think it was a waste of money. My other dogs are eligible to be registed with other grps (one aca another ckc) I never turned them in. I know what they are suppose to be, though I have doubts on the chi, and never saw a need for papers. |

Also having AKC registrations allow you the opportunity, if you should desire a chance to enjoy the sport. There is a lot to offer at shows - Companion Events such as Rally, Obediance, Agility, Hearding, Canine Good Citizen. Then there are seminars, health screenings (usually at slightly discounted prices), etc... The seminars are nurmerious from breed specific, to Puppy Puzzle Plus, Tracking, to Animal Behavior: American Kennel Club - AKC Seminars . There is also Junior Handling Club - great for kids! If you go to AKC.org - and check it out - there is a lot available for individuals to Families. So go check it out! You might be pleasantly surprised. :D |
I have had Chase for almost a year, and just recently sent his papers in. He is already neutered, and too big for showing, but for me it was wanting that piece of paper. I also got him enrolled in the companion recovery. It's also nice to know that he could do some of the companion events if I decide to train him for that. He is my first AKC dog, so I really wanted the benefits of that. The only reason it took me so long to send the papers in, I was looking for that perfect AKC name. I wanted something fun that reflected his personality :rolleyes: |
