Getting a new yorkie baby.... help! Hi, didnt really know where to put this, I have an almost 11 month old yorkie Missy, she is a brilliant dog, well behaved, a bit shy round other dogs but comes round and is great with them. All i wanna ask is .. do you think its a good idea to bring another yorkie into the family, shes only 2weeks old now so wont bring her home for another few weeks, I just wanna know peoples experience and if you think it is a good idea or not? Thanks :) |
I'm still debating bringing in a new one. I love/hate the idea of two. Let me explain: Kaji is my only baby, and I LOVE him so much more than I thought I could. I take him with me everywhere I possibly can. For those rare occasions that I leave him home, I feel guilty and I would love to have someone for him to play with. But, with two, would I have the flexibility of taking two with me everywhere? That's what's stopping me from researching a breeder in my area. I'm not sure I'M ready for two. I do however take Kaji to many playdates with friends we've made on YT. He really enjoys that. |
I was in you spot about 10 weeks ago. The feedback I got from everyone way YES :) My little boy is such a momma boy and everyone reccomended getting a little girl. I would say go for it ! |
I got Tank when Joey was a bit under a year old, but they're about 6 months apart. It's been a great decision!!!! They are like brothers, and 2 is so much better than 1!!! |

I wish I would have gotten a second dog years sooner. Do I take her and and Madison less places. Yes that is true. But when I leave them home at least they have each other. I say get a second dog if its in your heart to do it. I think that getting a second dog when the first dog is a year old allows them to be puppies together and to bond together. It will be a beautiful thing. I hope that the person that has the 2 week old pup doesn't release it til 12 weeks. I know many get their dog at 8 weeks but it really is better IMO for these little dogs to have those few extra weeks with momma. |
I recommend getting a cat as the second pet because 1) the dog will have a friend to play with when you aren't at home, 2) they wont encourage the dog to bark, i.e. one dog hears something and starts to bark, which causes the 2nd dog to bark, then you have a couple of yappers, and you cant hear yourself think, and 3) you still have the freedom to take your little dog everywhere you go. Of course this all depends on your specific dog, not all little dogs are yappers, and not all dogs can stand to be around cats. But that was just my 2 cents...oh and I really hope you dont pick your puppy up before 12 weeks, I get that we get excited about bringing home cute little puppies, but I didnt get mine till he was 14 weeks, and I think it was a good move on my part. He adjusted better, and he is great in his crate at night (no barking, whining, yelping, etc.) |
