Getting into more trouble recently... Sophie has been an amazing puppy...uses her pee pads, never really did anything like a typical puppy - never chewed anything other than paper, never really had accidents, trustworthy when I left her alone and now that she has turned 10 months she is getting into EVERYTHING. She chews shoes, she steals food from our hands if she is close enough, she has been avoiding her pee pads, barking at everything. Jumping onto the coffee table (I still have no idea how she managed that...) to get to our food, shredding any paper she can find and today she decided that while I was in the shower it would be alright for her to chew the coffee table -which now has a chunk missing. She is starting to act like I would have expected her to act many months ago. I don't want to have to crate her because she was doing so well and it stresses her out, but she is making me worry when I am away from her because I don't know what she is going to get into. We just brought a new kitten home 3 weeks ago (kitten is still locked up as she has coccidia and had fleas when we got her, she is being treated for the parasite and the fleas are gone) and this is about the time Sophie started acting like a fool. Could she be jealous/wanting more attention? The kitten, Libby, doesn't get that much attention right now as the bathroom is small and Sophie barks non stop when we come in to see Libby, but is Sophie just mad that there is now a place in the apartment she can't go to? She had full run of the place until we brought Libby home and we have two other cats, so she is definitely used to other cats. We took Sophie with us when we picked Libby up and made sure we didn't focus on the kitten only, but could her behaviour just be from bringing home the new kitten and her not being the baby anymore and I lock her out of the bathoom when I am with the kitten? If so, does anyone have any idea how I can make her less upset? She is fine when we aren't in the apartment as long as Libby isn't with us. As soon as Libby is near us, she starts acting like a puppy again. It is just getting frustrating and I need help. |
She just needs extra attention and maybe a playpen or x-pen if she can't be trusted when you're not home. Spoil her tell she knows she's still special. |
Sounds like she could be jealous. I was on vacation and my dtr was home with my 4 yorkies. She had 4 baby kittens in my garage (long story, happy ending) but Cali kept her up all night scratching at doors and just kept my dtr up all night. She couldn't understand why because Cali usually sleeps all night. I told her she knows there are kittens in the garage and wants to get to them. She didn't believe me until the kittens were gone and she settled down. So it sounds like Sophie could be acting out because of the new kitty. Hope she settles down soon. |
