Why would a 12 week old pup growel at other pups? This was something to see..Id never seen anything like it before..one of my friends brought their yorkie pup over to visit yesterday..she is 12 weeks old. and when they got here, we introduced her to bella, who is 13 weeks. and all she did for like 20 minutes was growl, this serious big dog growl..lol it was crazy. Id never seen a pup do this before. Bella was trying to play with her and she was not having it, at all..she would not snap at her just sat in her moms lap and growled, so kathy got up and stood by her, ans she still continued to growl. after about 20 min she chilled out, she quit growling but would not play. for about 40 min, and then she slowly started playing with Bella, after an hour she was playing fine and seemed to be having fun..it was so wierd! The pup is the offspring of her own yorkie's she has both parents, they are pure bread, and defiantly not related, and both the mom and dad are sweethearts. and she said this was the first time that the puppy ever did this, she was as shocked as I was..any clue as to what her problem might have been?? |
Wow No one has ever seen a puppy as young as hers do this before either??? I was just wondering if it was normal behavior, or if she is going to have an aggressive yorkie on her hands. |
Maybe since he was so young, he was just asserting himself? Although, if it were me (and I did do this) I would take him to a puppy class for socialization. :) |
Oliver was 16 weeks when we introduced him to Rhett. He (oliver) growled for about half an hour, but now they are the best of friends. My guess is your friends pup was just overwhelmed at being in a strange place with a strange dog. Socialization classes should help with that. |
Lucy growled at Ringo, my Westie, her first day home. She was 12 weeks old. It was funny because we were sooo worried that Ringo would be mean to her! And he wanted to play with her (which we didn't think he would) and she growled at him that whole first night! Now they are best buds. I just think she was scared and overwhelmed. He WAS a lot bigger than her. She does sometimes growl at strange dogs on a walk; but she has other neighborhood friends, too. So I don't know if this means she's aggressive or not! |
