oh why me?? what on earth can i buy to keep a 4 lbs short legged yorkie out of areas i dont want him in???>>??> Coby's able to climb over most stuff i have no clue:confused::confused: how he does it but he does.... i bought gates-- he gets over them sigh... i work during the day ... i cant let him have complete run of my apartment..when you put up gates he tries to size it up with his eyes and all i see in his eyes is how am i going to get over 'this new barricade, i've run out of idea's ??? i can buy a expen, but my guess is he'll fine a way to climb out of it.. hes also barking very loud and does that to get his own way.. most times i give into him so he wont disturb my next door neighbors, but i would like him to stop barking loud all the time when he, doent get his way..as for his crate he's master geting out of it as well |

The command stay might help you. But when your gone and you don't want him going nowhere I recomend a crate, |
I agree with the above poster, having him used to a crate would be a good thing. He won't get hurt that way when you're away. Now that Bandit is 3 we're able to leave him out and trust him (still fenced in the living room) but Nala is still crated in the room with him. She can somehow get over the fence too!! |
I would definitely be putting him in a crate even put a blanket over it so he knows its quiet time. |
I have this: X-LARGE PINK PET TENT DOG PLAYPEN EXERCISE KENNEL CRATE - eBay (item 370371902020 end time May-04-10 10:00:11 PDT) It has a mesh top that zips on, though I don't use it because Roxie hasn't tried to jump out of it yet. She actually loves it. It's like her little house. Her toys, blankets, and bed are in it, and that's where she sleeps at night. Before the ex-pen, I had her gated in the kitchen while I was out of the house. I had gates that didn't have any mesh, and had vertical bars that she couldn't climb. Good luck! |

I've got one pole vaulter, but he can't get over a 36" x-pen...Are you sure yours is high enough? For barking, I put Buzz in time-out for a couple of minutes, in a small gated area about 3x3...He gets it that it's his barking that got him in it...Now I'm talking obnoxious barking at Apple, his sister...If he's barking, because he hears a sound outside, or something through the glass patio door, I just talk to him in a calm voice and tell him "it's o.k", and he usually settles down... |

wow - what great links to really nice gates - I have just been putting two of the regular (diamond) gates together one on top of the other not because Bridget is a climber (as of yet) but because I want to keep the cats out of her room (not sure I trust them 100% yet - they get to playing a little rough) and they can't jump over the two doubled up. But this has enlightened me that she could really get hurt if she did try to climb out. I guess I need to figure something else. That's what's so nice about YT - you learn things you didn't even realize you needed to learn - you are all amazing!!! |

What I did with one of my boys, that loved to climb was, put him in a regular metal x-pen, lined all the sides with plexi-glass and bought a metal top for it (the top is designed especially for metal x-pens). Once he was trained to stop his climbing he was allowed his freedom. To this day he will not attempt to jump and/or climb on anything. |
