Getting her used to grooming??? Ok, I have bathed my baby 2 times now, and both times she shakes so bad I feel sorry for her. I have the water at a good temp, I never leave her, and always keep a hand on her. I don't fill the sink up, the water only runs. The lady that I got her from said that she didn't have any problems with grooming her. Are there any suggestions on how I can get her used to me bathing her? Also, when I try to put a bow in her hair she fights me... is there a simple way to do it, or do I need to just keep trying?? |
I think they all shake when they are wet. My two shake like they are froze to death and that is with heat going full force in the bathroom. I just wrap them in a big beach towel when baths are over and cuddle with them till they are over the shivers. The more you work with her the better she will get as far as everyday grooming goes. But, she will probably always shiver and shake when she is wet. Just keep the room warm when you are giving her bath. |
I always throw an extra towel in the dryer and after I lift Bonnie out of the bath with the first towel, I pat her dry and comb her out. Then I wrap her in the warm towel and hold her til she wants to get down (and run like crazy:rolleyes:) Oh, the noise from the running water might scare her too. |
bunny was the same way it takes time treat her when she cooperates. the bow thing is hard but u have to make her show her whos boss i know its hard cuz they so cute but thats what the vet told me and its been working |
I give Tanner treats when he is good while bathing...he does shake but I just think he is a little freaked. When we are done with the bath I also wrap him in a towel and give him another treat piece. The only question I have is, is it normal for them to get really hyper after their baths? Tanner runs around like a crazy man and wants to play with everything. Is that normal? |
.I'm not yorkie expert but I have had dogs all my life..big and small and every 1 i've had has acted like that after a bath...it just perks them up..lol..shoot my 10 yr old black lab still does it at times..I would think its normal... |
Boo Boo shakes every time he gets a bath. He's used to it, he gets one every week. As soon as he sees me getting the stuff ready for a bath he runs and hides. He behaves well during the bath, even lifting his back legs so I can wash and rinse the inside of his leg. I've just accepted that he doesn't like it. I talk to him during the bath and give him little treats when he does good. Once he is out of the water he is just fine. He actually likes getting blow dried. He sits on a towel moving his head back and forth with the dryer. The only part he really hates is when I try to brush the hair on his face. Then he starts channeling ray Charles, bobbing his head back and forth to get away from the brush...It's just something that has to be done. While the dog may not like it, you just gotta remind yourself that it is part of taking good care of your baby and try not to feel too bad about it. As for dogs going crazy after a bath...from my experience that is completely normal. Every dog i've ever had goes a little nuts.... |
Mr. Darcy HATES bathtime! I used to bath him in the sink, but he kept turning around and around and invariably got his foot in the drain hole......and he was way more nervous when I let the tap run. I now bath him in the tub. I lift the shower head off the holder and spray him 'wet' - turn it off, lather him up then rinse spray him. I have a big towel and a little towel. I kinda squeeze him out! then wrap him in the big towel and put the little one over his head and dry that first, and clean his eyes. I comb him out with THE STUFF sprayed on him when he is almost dry. Now I have Lizzie, she barks and barks until he is back down on the floor - I can't quite figure why she barks. She doesn't seem to like being wet anymore than Mr. Darcy, but I have persevered, and I run the clipper now on the tips of her ears, and she seems to accept it - however - the feet are a different story - I will have to keep on working on that! They also shiver, and then go balistik when they are done!!:D |
