Sam won't walk I have two Yorkies, Max and Sam. Max walks at whatever pace I set, but Sam continually pulls, all he wants to do is run. when he is running he's fascinating to watch. Both Max and Sam are let off their leads, if no other dogs are around and come to heel when I call them, so Sam does know what heel means. Max and Sam are bigger Yorkies each weighing at 14lbs and very muscular. The tendons on one of my shoulders has been badly damaged, with the continual pulling. Has anyone got an answer. Both have harnesses, in fact several different types. |
Obedience training....and then you work with him. |
Obedience training classes are not really an option, I have health problems. I've trained Max and Sam myself and apart from this one problem everything is perfect. |
Train them one at a time and then introduce other dogs into the mix so they get used to coming with other stimuli. As for the pulling, we got the harness that kind of squeezes and turns them around in the front if they pull, they learned very quickly! Good luck. |
Perhaps this would work? I have never used it, but it might be the only option if you can't take him to class. I hope you find something that works for you soon! |

I only let them off their leads when there are no ther dogs are around, because I don't trust other dogs. |
Wrenee4 Thank you, I'll try that harness. The one I'm using just now is similar, but I can see how the one on your link might work. Fingers crossed. |
You could try this https://wackywalkr.websitesource.net/ My dog is 15lbs and likes to pull. I got this leash about 3 days ago, and it's been great. It takes the stress off you when he pulls, and gently discourages pulling. |
I have no clue whether it would work with a yorkie, but I use a halti (gentle lead) on my brittany. When she tries to pull ahead, it turns her nose around. Stops her pulling every time. I have a nerve disorder and tendonitis in one arm. These have been a life saver for me (and her!) I just noticed they also make a harness-type.
