Traveling necessities and tricks Ok I thought with the weather getting nice people might be traveling or getting ready to travel and maybe we should start a thread on what you have found to be very useful and necessary when traveling with your babies? And any tricks that should be shared :) Necessary stuff for us: Popware raised food and water dish Favorite Blanket Non stinky bully bones (she loves to sit on almost anyones lap if they hold it for her) I think the one thing I have not used yet but just got for an upcoming trip will be very handy is a pop up play pen that folds flat when not in use and is extremely light so it will keep Callie from getting out and from other people stepping on her or any number of things that could happen. I found that taking a lot of toys with Callie is just not necessary she plays with them some but not long and not many of them because she is either tired, exploring, or finding something else to keep her attention so I only take five or six of her favorite ones. Another thing sometimes shes not that big into eating so the toys that dispense treats that she loves when at home are great to put her food in and she will eat it that way. |
great idea! I bring everything on your list plus: bottled water baby wipes the small container of rice that takes 1 minute in the microwave with nothing added (perfect to give a bit if they get an upset stomach at all during your time away) pee pads Also its important to make sure you re-check their tags and that they are up to date with your cell phone number or another place you can easily be reached while you are traveling. My vets business card in my wallet, should an emergency occur and another vet need to contact them. Make sure you have proof of rabies, their tag or paperwork if they dont wear the tag. Their bag is usually as big as mine  |
GREAT idea... When we left for Florida in March, it looked like we were going for a yr..lol..I brought everything they need, I mean everything...you never know what you might need, or what will come up! The best thing I purchased was this doggy water bottle, that has a lil cup on the end...you just squeeze so much out, and it goes into the lil cup...NO spills ...was great! and sensitive baby wipes..those I used alot. |
great idea for this thread!!! loveshay, where did you get your cup? what brand is it? |
If you are flying, be sure to take a small container of food, treats, kibble, etc. I also take a little bowl for water and bottled water. We just tuck these and weewee pads and wipes in our carryon bags. We have had flight cancellations, long delays, etc. and been stuck overnite and I was always thankful that I had Toto's regular food!:thumbup: |
Traveling safety tip: when staying at a hotel, put your dog in a pen or crate while you meticulously check the floor for anything dangerous that may have been left behind, like pills or earrings that may have been missed by the vacuum cleaner. Check under the beds and other furniture. Look around the room for power cords and other potential hazards that you would normally take care of at home. If you leave your dog alone in the room, secure him/her in an xpen or crate and hang the "do not disturb" sign on the door to prevent housekeeping or someone from opening the door and accidentally allowing the dog out of the room. |
