This seems like it would work well on a pregnant dog, as the hair would stay out of puppy's way when nursing. The hair on Joey's legs is pretty long, but I've seen it cut in shorter layers on some dogs with more cottony coats and it looks really great. From looking at him, it looks like all the blue has been shaved and all the tan is left long. Here are a couple of other angles. I'm not sure of the blades used, ARCHIE does this cut, maybe you could PM her, Mardelon does it too, but she'll be gone for a few weeks.

Her hair looks silky like Joey's and I think she'll look really great. Lol that last picture is so cute it looks like she loves tummy rubs. Actually it's a great cut if they like to wear clothes too, so if you really mess up, I guess you could buy a maternity dress! :D

That last picture of Joey is adorable. That was all it took to convence me to get Bonnie cut like that too.
I have been on the fence about cutting her short this summer.
She has a cotton coat, and it is looking a little messy now. Not to mention, she is already panting and looking for a cool place to lay down in the afternoons.
May I print out that picture and take it to the groomers?

Oh thank you, actually, I think it's even better on a cotton coat, their legs look fuller, I didn't want to do it because his coat was so perfect, he's never tangles or mats, but I thought it was such a cute cut. I know for sure that I'd do it on a cotton coat, "no more tangles." Feel free to print it out. Mardelin, a wonderful breeder here, said the official name for the cut is a "Modified Schnauzer with a puppy head", just in case your groomer has never heard of the "Joey". :D

Thank you Nancy for the different cut angles of Joey. I got a #7 blade and will try again on Zhoie. Maybe this weekend if it warms up here more. brrrr

Is the #7 the correct blade? Just wondering. I'm ordering a pair of clippers and want to make sure I get the correct blades too!

It does look like the body is done with a 7F. I love this cut too and wish some of the owners of the yorkies i groom would let me do this. Morgan has a cotton coat and i usually keep her like this. It looks different then joey tho because her hair on the legs doesn't hang straight down. Since it poofs out i trim the leg hair in layers. I shave the tail too and give her a short but full round head.

I actually took Zhoie down to the groomer I used on my other two dogs and we went over what blade I needed to order and she instructed me on proper use. lol. She was great and even demonstrated how I should hold it/use it correctly. I had ordered the Peanut cordless to use to trim the tippy corners of her eyes and she showed me the hold on that too. I'm going to try the #7 on Zhoie this weekend if it warms up some here. geez it's been cold and raining.

VERY CUTE ! I just cut my Chanel way down but she still has her braid - she feels better and I still need to get the legs shorter - I always have trouble doing them correctly

Love Chanel's braid, she could play Rapunzel, in a movie! I would think this would be great in for a Texas summer. I've heard the legs are the hardest part, and that some people suggest brushing the leg hair towards back, and clipping on an angle, sort of feathering the hair, so that it all blends.

My Bentley has a thick, cotton coat!
I finally got brave last weekend, and gave him a "Half-Joey". :rolleyes:
I left his legs, and his "skirt", I trimmed his back, belly, and the insides of his legs. He is so dark though, that I am having a tough time getting a picture that shows the different lengths! ANY SUGGESTIONS??
He doesn't look too impressed, does he?? My DH took the picture, I laughed so-o hard, when I saw it! The F-kids all came running to see what they were missing!:D

Lol, I can see you are the creative type and an artist. You are just probably years ahead of your time! :D Bentley's tongue sticking out says it all!

I just think it is a shame... he grew all that hair for me... to just shave him off willy-nilly!:rolleyes:
My girls all wear their hair long, and my other boys have "diaper-cuts" (shaved where the belly band sits)

I have been thinking of cutting Caoimhe's hair for the summer, and I think that I will do the Joey cut. It is super cute. If I get her cut I will post pics:)

Well we finally got brave and gave Shayna the Joey cut. OMGosh she look so cute. Okay I admit, I couldn't do it myself, so I got my groomer to come here to do it. Now I've seen it and can probably do it myself, I just didn't trust me. I'll send pics soon... Great cut, great op. Thank you

Your groomer did a wonderful job, the legs look perfect! I think it might be easier to keep up with the cut than actually do it the first time, so maybe you can follow her pattern. Now I know what Joey would look like pregnant! :D

In the summer my Dexter sports "The Joey" cut! LOL It's not on purpose though! I usually shave him myself in the summer and have them groomed in the winter... but by the time I finish shaving his back and trimming his face and chest he won't let me NEAR his legs! LOL So they end up staying long! Very cute cut! :)

Thanks for the complement! But thanks to you for posting in the first place.. I've been lookin for the perfect cut for a long time, till I stumbled on your thread. So much hair on these littlle guys, I almost cryed. Felt like my baby was getting her first cut and maybe I should save some hair...LOL. She probably lost a pound from all that hair. Not.. Anyway, thanks to you and I love it and so does she. She seemed to have a spring in her step yesterday, but is down for the count today due to the belly. The groomer was warning me we'd see more nipples with this cut, told her that didn't bother us. I'm lovin the belly, she's 48 days today and counting. Thanks again for the encouragement!

(laughing) I just PM'd you cause we posted at the same time and I was afraid you missed my post!

I DO love this cut and Ivan is running and playing like a dog should. Before, he'd tire out after 2-5 mins. Now he just keeps going. I rub his saddle and he just closes his eyes and says "ahhhhh, Momma. That feels so good". Before his hair was so cottony thick you couldn't feel his skin. :D

I will not do it to Alfie just yet. He's only 3.11 lbs, was just neutered Friday before last and is only getting his coat back now after his illness. I'd like to let it grow in a bit and see what it would look like. He has a very silky coat which normally is easier to groom. But we'll see!

I think Ivan looks like a gift shop stuffed dog, too! That's the first thing I said when I bought him. He looks like something your kids would come home with after a elementary school field trip and they spent all the money you gave them on the stuffed toy dog!
