Forget it? Lexy has the mattiest hair! The hair on her head is cottony and gets matted everyday because of her ponytail. The hair on her body is much better, but gets horribly matted whenever I dress her. I spray Ice on Ice on her beforehand, but she still gets matted by her clothes. Should I just get her hair cut short, or is this still puppy hair at 10 months old? After her bath she is soooo silky and beautiful, I hate to cut her hair off but she is so miserable getting the tangles out. Joy is going to make her some new harnesses lined with satin and I hope that will help. Somebody said Cowboy Magic gets out mats. I thought you weren't supposed to wet the mats or they were more difficult to get out. I'm really up for advice here! She is just so cute in all her clothes, but I don't want to dress her at the expense of hurting her to get out mats. All advice will be appreciated. |
I have the same problem with Bitsy's hair if I don't undress her at the end of the day and brush her....same thing if I leave her little pig tails in for more than a few days. It's a lot more work but I think you are supposed to brush them everyday anyway for a healthy coat...do I do that myself....I try to but don't always:) I've tried using the dematting spray when I get the mats out but it seems to me it just makes it harder to get out and harder on her. I've heard you shouldn't brush them dry...but I don't know. That's how I do it. I just cannot bring myself to cut her hair off. I love her hair and I think it makes her look feminine and prissy!!! :) |
I also forgot to say that if I put clothes on her when she is the least bit damp she gets matted MUCH worse! :) |
IT really could be part puppy hair and part Adult coat...I had GREAT LUCK with Johnsons No More Tangles for Babies - sold in all stores in the baby section - 5 bucks and it worked MIRACLES for Cheri's puppy hair tangles |

LOL. It worked MIRACLES on me when I was a KID...LOL.. so long ago :p I use a spray in conditioner from the healthfood store for Cowboy(even though he hardly has anything but wispy thin scragglies). It is called Alogen or is it Alogren???, and has no harsh chemicals that alot of spray ins have. It also does not leave a film or weigh down hair. LOL.... This is human stuff and is GREAT for thin headed scraggly people who can't use regular spray in conditioners because the least bit of ANYTHING makes their hair get the greasy look or flat look!!!!!   |

Mw too.. I always use the regular on the body and tearless on the face. I figure if my human little ones don't go berserk when it runs down their faces in their eyes it must really not sting(the tearless kind). |

For Lexi - try to give her another month or 2 and I bet you see a big change in her coat...When Cheri's Adult hair was coming in.... she tangled MUCH worse than she does now...I even had to cut out a matt once.....it was a big one on her side and I have no idea how it knotted that bad so fast....that hardly happens now that she's older |
J&J is the best! I think just about everyone has used it at one time or another. Lexy might be 10 months old, but she still has her puppy coat, Their adult coat starts at a year, and is a full adult coat at two years. I never had to deal with tangles, but there has to be something out there. I hope you find something soon. :) |

Gucci used to get tangle so bad when I dress her, i decided to trim her hair. SInce then her hair is not getting matted that much. I do have to brush her hair at least once a day. Her hair is growing and so far so good. So I will say she might still have her puppy coat and is changing to her adult coat, so I wouldnt cut her hair just yet. Hopefully the Satin lining will work and she wont matt as much. |
I couldn't find Cowboy Magic, but I bought some Tail 'n Mane conditioner. I'll let y'all know if it helps any! |
Chachis hair is cottony. What I do that helps is I brush though his hair with the conditioner on then rinse. This takes out all the matts and his hair doesnt get matted. I have reccommended this to other people who have tried this with success also. |

You can use the Cowboy magic on the dry coat also. But I found out that a very little goes a long way, so beware. LOL. Schatzie ended up kinda gunky feeling and a tad greasy. I have the same issues w/ Schatzie and keep her in a longer style puppy cut now. It's been easier than ever and I personally think she looks fine. Also, she no longer matts when she wears her t-shirts/sweaters, etc. |
My Lexi always has mats! I swear she goes to bed at nite and wakes up with 5 new mats a day! I've tried everything and nothing helps, she just has hair that mats like crazy! Thank God the groomers are coming tomorrow and she is getting a puppy cut, except her head/face. Then I have Max who never mats and Tia we had to shave when we got her because her hair was all matted and now its coming in real silky. I guess all yorkies hair is not created equal! LOL! |
