I've never heard of dew claws being removed and I'm sure it's not done in the UK. It sounds as ridiculous as docking tails! If a dog was born with both why do we humans have the right to remove them. |

You can also go to the AKC website and look for breeders in your area there. Here is the link to the breeder classified on their site. They also list some questions that you should ask a breeder when you contact them. http://www.akc.org/classified/search/index.cfm just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the free blreeder search link and follow the directions. You can search by state or nationwide. |
Thank you all very much for your advice and help :) greatly appreciated! |

I don't know how much you are looking to spend or how far away you are but there is a really good breeder in Moose Creek. Her website is www.thefurkids.com . I purchased a yorkier from her and drove to pick her up and Adele is wonderful. Good luck on your search. |
They should give you a starter kit, usually with a sample of food, vet records of worming and shots, sometimes a toy and/or blanket. Good breeders will not release puppies that are very small or under 12 weeks of age. I've bought two, one had a signed contract to return within 48 hours is not vet checked as healthy and both had a spay/neuter agreement. Both breeders were very concerned about who gets their puppies and wanted to know things like if I had small children in the house, other pets, a vet picked out who knew how to treat small dogs, how much time I had to be with my yorkie, etc. I asked about liver shunt, if they checked their puppies for that, and any hip or knee problems. I wanted to check their house for cleanliness and bonding, so if youcan go to the breeder I think that's a plus. I also bought a book about yorkies and read it cover to cover before I picked one out. With all the research I could do, I still paid a wide range for mine and have a wide range of color/personality/size, all of it loved but the point is, in my opinion, you cannot be sure because all yorkie puppies look the same. |
This is the Canadian Yorkshire Terrier website -- they have a list of breeders in your area: http://www.thecyta.com/ |
