Biting! Help!!! In the last few days, Rhett has taken to biting the heck out of me. Not nipping, full on biting to the point of leaving bruises and scratching skin. I've tried yelping, distracting, time outs, etc. But nothing seems to help. I can't put the leash on him without fearing I'll lose more skin! Any suggestions? |
How old is he? Did he just start doing this? Pixie went through a biting stage but never left a mark and all I would have to do is yipe like it really hurt and she would stop dead in her tracks. You could talk to the vet and ask him what you should do,If it is only when you are putting a leash on then that is a different story he is just trying to get his own way and he has learned that bearing down on you works. If it is the leash thing I would try a different approach. Like show him a treat and let him sniff out the leash and give him a treat and put on the leash or harness and then a treat again. Pixie has learned that when we get the harness out it is time to go and she is all about it. I use to give her a treat put on the harness and then treat again and praise praise. Good luck |
He's 13 weeks and the biting comes during all activities- leashing, training, petting, combing. My hands and arms are covered in marks. He nipped lightly once or twice the first 2 weeks we had him, but has increased drastically over the past week and a half. He doesn't go to the vets again for another 3 weeks. |
How old was he when you got him? You need to deal with it the same way his mother would. Make a snapping ;noise like his m other would and use your fingers to nip at his neck. If doing that a couple of times does not correct it then get more serious sounding and make it lmore of a pinch than a nip. this is not cruel, it is how his mother would do it and it is the language that he understands. |
We got him at 10 weeks. I've tried the nip with the fingers, it makes him more angry and he whirls around to bite me harder. I may have to try doing it harder. |
No advice, but I'm following this post. Our Charlie (14 weeks) had been doing the normal nipping and we'd been correcting him. But today he went beyond the nipping stage and really hurt my daughter. Both arms are scratched up with his biting and it really hurt. Good luck with this. Hope we can both resolve it. Mary |
