question about fine puppy hair, ok here is a question, My brother got a yorkie puppy that seems to be maybe mixed with something, either that or poor breeding, she is adorable but her ears are way big and her legs are way long, thats why we think she may be a mix of some kind, he got her from a older lady that couldnt care for her, she is about 4 months old, in very good overall health, but her hair is really thin and fine. is there anything he can do to help thicken it up. she was on a good puppy food, and still is.( chicken soup for the puppy lovers soal) so we are sure its not due to her diet. would it help if he shaved her some. I have heard that if you shave the hair it comes in thicker, anyone know if that is true,,or have any suggestions? |
I think there's a post in the library section of this forum about coats and how they turn out. If I remember correctly, many pups with thin coats end up with beautiful silky coats when they mature... I would just let her be and accept her as she is for right now... look at it as a low maintenance phase in her life...:D |
Found it: A puppy whose coat appears sparse or thin will, as an adult, have a thick, long coat of the correct fine silky, glossy texture. This coat’s growth is like a human’s hair, in that it is born with very little but by adulthood has an abundance of hair, the quantity having doubled and redoubled all during puppyhood (or childhood). Both colors will be totally clear. A puppy of around four months, that has changed the color on its head from black to gray to a very pale sooty color, will as an adult enrich all the tan areas to a clear golden tan. The blue will follow the correct manner of transition from black to blue starting to do so around six months. The coat texture will be the correct silky type. |
about right My girl grew some legs when she was about 4 mos. old. She isn't too tall at all, but she suddenly seemed tall. The body and legs should turn out to be pretty square, so it is early to be concerned. The pup will be adorable regardless.:animal36 |
ears Oh, almost forgot. Yorkie ears are often pretty big. That's why we have hair ear fringe, to hide those suckers. |
Thanks guys, that helped a lot!! I totally forgot about the fine hair turning into a correct coat,,and thats pretty bad considering that, this is the kind of puppy hair that my own Yorkie had as a puppy...I feel so stupid, how could I forget that my own dog went through the same thing..lol..I guess what through me was the fact that she could be mixed with something..lol at least that is the story I'm going with..lmao. |
