not a yorkie, but upset me. I have been looking for a parti-pom to talk my hubby into letting me get. Today I saw someone offering poms for sale at 5 wks old! I could not believe it. It does not look as if they are taking deposits but pay and go home with your new pup. I thought it was against the law to sell before 6 wks old here. I have learned a lot on here to get so upset I guess. |
I have never heard of it being illegal to sell a dog before a certain age, but it definitely is wrong. My parents have bottle fed many pups out of necessity and it is not fun... It is hard enough to get a puppy who is old enough to eat well, can you imagine a 5 week old? A couple years back we rescued a chihuahua pup that my friend's inlaws were going to leave on the side of the road. They had 2 full blooded chihuahuas that were their babies and when the female had puppies the owner went nuts... she threw all the dogs in the garage and all but this puppy died. When I took her to the vet she was 4 weeks old and very malnourished... it was a heck of a ride, and so costly... she ended up having to be put down 4 weeks later because her gut was completely infected. |

and yes - states have laws - but we all know how those are - not very enforced when it comes to animals |
There are actually laws about the age a puppy can be sold. All I know is that in Florida it's 8 weeks... |
Really? Now I am curious about Texas law. Down here I see people advertising puppies at 5 weeks that are ready to go. I've even read an ad where the seller claimed that puppies bond better with their owners when they are taken home before 6 weeks:mad: If anyone has any info on Texas law regarding the age that a puppy can be sold please let me know! I found this but my state is not on it. Age to Sell Puppy Table |
Texas is not on there either. I wish it had been... I get so frustrated with these people advertising these teeny tiny babies who barely have teeth. |
I actually filed a report. I knew that they had not taken in the adults because they had become flea infested and had horrible bowel issues. Lucky for me they lived in a large city that paid attention to what I had to say. Both animals were removed. This was years ago... I was pregnant with my 2nd child... and she had to be put down the day after I gave birth. Can you imagine my emotions with all those hormones? Quote:

Our Chihuahua was only 5 weeks old when I went to look at her. I ended up getting her because I just couldn't leave her in that environment (long story). I said to him that she was way to young to leave her mom but he said "no, she is eating on her own"...yea right! I bottle fed her for three weeks every three hours and she also was full of parisites and had them in her intestines( can't think of the name). She is almost a year and half old now and doing well. I have never bought a puppy before without doing research but this time my heart over ruled my head( I was just going to look). I still think that if we hadn't taken her that she would have died. I see that they do not advertise puppies any more. |
I looked at the ad yesterday and they had added taking deposits. I do not know if they had just left it off before or what. I know it was not there the first couple of times I saw it. |
What is wrong with people:thumbdown why so early:( poor babies:animal-pa |
