flying with your yorkie Ok so for christmas, My boyfriend (John) and I are flying back to Vegas to see our relatives. and we don't feel comfortable leaving Tigger home alone or with anyone else for that matter, so we want to bring him along. Our realitives would also like to see him. they saw only a video of him at ten weeks old. when he goes to fly he will be six months old. I was curious as to if anyone had any good tips or advise? do I use a dog sedative? what all do I need to take with me other then his shot records and a health certificate? thank you soo much. |

Call the airline you are going to fly on to get their rules and regulations and then be sure to follow them to a "T". Health papers and up to date vaccinations are required as well as an airline aproved crate that will fit under your seat. Peppy recently flew from Washington State (his birth place) to Georgia (his forever home) with my husband. He was 7 months old and weighed 2 lbs. 12 ounces. Because he was required to stay in the crate and under the seat, hubby took his shoe and sock off and offered his big toe as a chew toy, and to snuggle up to. We selected to fly Delta because they seemed to be the most accomodating for pets in the cabin. GOOD LUCK! |
You have gotten really good advice so far! One thing you might want to check with your vet on is the sedative. I have heard that sometimes flying with small breeds it can cause blood pressure drops. Can't remember where I read that but I would definitely ask just to be safe. Good luck! |
has anyone used pet eez before? I heard something good about it today from a customer of mine(I work in the pet retail industry) and she highly recommended it. I still need to speak with my vet though. thank you soo much. |
I have flow with annie many many times and I would recommend using nothing.... We just put her in her bag and she just sleeps the whole way there... She has done anywhere from 2-5 hour trips with no problem... The first few trips I woud feel bad about her being in the bag for so long and try to sneak her out and hide her underneath a blanket... but stress everytime a flight attendent would walk by... But I've learned that if I just let her be she just sleeps the whole time... And then as soon as we land I take her outside and let her do her do her business and all is fine... I suppose if tigger isn't used to being in a bag I would take him shopping with you etc for the next couple months to get used to it :D |
