? about trimming the ears I know you are suppose to trim the top 1/3 portion of their ears, but what is the correct trimming shape? a straight line? I read somewhere to do it in either a V shape or maybe an upside down V? And of course... any pictures you can share would be really great also!! (just love looking at pictures!!!!) :D |

There is a picture showing the shape the ear should be trimed here. http://www.yorkieviews.com/grooming.htm |
you trim around the ear in the shape of the ear...right next to the leather. If you've never done it before use EXTREME caution since they could jerk and you could cut the leather. IMHO. |
Thank you for the grooming tips websites- that is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks bunches! |

I know what you mean when you say "use EXTREME caution"- it is a nerve raking experience until I put those scissors down!! I always make sure I have MY fingers between the ear leather and the scissors. I would rather take the nip myself than do it to one of my babies! |
I see everyone has allready helped you. Good luck. The ear trimming and nails make me nerves too. |
You don't HAVE to trim their ears..it is up to you. I keep Baby's long and I love them! |
I have read that the ear should be trimmed like the one in the link that Baron put up. When we first got Reagan, however, a friend of my MIL had a yorkie and showed me how she cut her's ears and she did just a straight line. She did Reagan's for me that day and ever since I've been cutting them the same way. It works for us, I don't think its the proper way but its a lot easier(I think) than cutting out the V/diamond shape. I just lay my finger down where I want the line and shave up. Its goes pretty quick. |
I do the straight line too. Trying to hold a wiggling Yorkie and trim the ears is no easy task. |
the reason for the V shape is to have the long hair drape both in front and in back of the ear. Really, any way that works for you is good, the only time grooming is an issue is when you are showing your dog, then it plays a big part in the dogs presentation. |
SHHH.... I use my husband's beard trimmer, it's the safest way for me so I wont cute his ear off! |
