Face Color Transition In general, and I understand they are all individuals, about what age range does a puppy's face turn from black to gold? Thanks! |

Does that explain it? Clear as mud, huh? |
I'm curious about this too so I may not be much help. But here's what I've noticed... I have a silky coated yorkie, and she just turned a year old. Her head started out black, now it is a very light silverish/grey color. However, the base of her ears is definitely gold and it seems to spreading up from her ears. Her face is nearly solid brown/gold. The silver hasn't spread down her back yet and I'm not sure if it will or not. Her body (except legs/belly) is still 90% black. I'm weird and I'd actually love it if she stayed mostly black. I just love the contrast it creates between the two colors as opposed to a body that is a lighter silver color. Both are beautiful though. -C |

4 Attachment(s) I don't know how 'normal' it is, but here's Gracie Ruth at 12 weeks and then again at 14 weeks. You can see the grey starting on top of her head and around her eyes. Attachment 314458 Attachment 314459 And here's her full brother, Yogi at 12 weeks and 16 months Attachment 314460 Attachment 314461 G changed rapidly and early in her life. Yogi is still basically the same color he was as a puppy. I tease sometimes and say that Yogi never changed color because I begged him so much as a puppy to say this beautiful color. And being the little love bug, mommy's boy that he is, he did as I begged. :D |
4 Attachment(s) Hmm... Jackson already had a bit of silver coming in around 9 weeks, he kept changing and changing and at 1.5 years old, his back is now back to a darker blackish color again even tho it's been silver since he was 6 months old. 1st pic- 9 weeks old 2nd pic- around 4 1/2 months old (first haircut) Last two pics are now. The top of his head still has some white but it's mostly gold. |
