My puppy is a killer!!!! My sweet baby! awwwww Welllll.... the kids found a chipmunk (we think the back legs were damaged) and they had it in a styrofoam cooler. The dogs knew it was there and kept going back to it, so I finally said let them just see it and they will leave it alone! So we showed them and Fletcher DIVED in and grabbed the poor thing. He did 3 laps around the car before we got it from him, but it died sometime during it's time in his mouth! Poor thing! He was sooo proud of himself though! The only animal he EVER caught was one that was practically handed to him, lazy dog! LOL |
Kacee might have done the same thing. I remember when she was a puppy she found a baby bunny that I couldn't see in my mums and I saw her looking down into them and suddenly she reached down and bit it. It ran off squealing and left on the brick under Kacee's mouth was a quarter size of rabbit fur and skin attached. Ouch! That had to hurt so much.:( |
I know. It's hard to think that our sweet little babies can be little killers! There is mommy bird in my yard with a nest of eggs. I hope one of those little baby birds do not fall out! |
I can feel your pain. We had a baby bunny over the winter that all 3 of mine cornered. It tried to get away but got stuck in the fence :( They might be adorable but they are still hunters. |
My mom has pet rabbits and when we go over there Pann tries to get into the cages and eat them! My mom opened the cage one time and he went straight in on attack mode  luckily no one got hurt but there's been no more open cages when pann's around! |
3 days ago Zeus found a bird on the ground. He grabbed it and started shaking it. He killed it eventually. |
Yup, Bailey is just drooling to get his jaws on my parakeet, he would kill her in a second if he could catch her!..Yet they look so sweet and innocent, looks are deceiving! :p |
LOL... awww, so sad, yet so proud! haha. Jackson caught and killed a bird and I felt so bad for the bird, but was proud of my little Yorkie hunter. ;) |
Remember our babies' ancestors were bred for hunting rats? ;) Our breeder told us to be careful if we've smaller animals like rabbits at home. She found her Yorkies killing a small chicken and a rabbit before. I've no doubt my sweet little Sandy will do the same too. He's already doing it with his toys  |
Each of mine caught baby birds in mid air - seperate times but I noticed they they didn't try to kill - just ran around the yard with them thinking they had a real live squeaky toy - freaked me out - the birds didn't make it - but it's instinct - |

I felt sooo bad for the kids, but Fletch was such a proud boy for that little bit I could not stop laughing at his attitude and prance! The kids probably think I'm the biggest meanie in the world! I told the kids, well now we know, no matter how cute or small they are, they are still DOGS and have the instincts. |
Last summer all three of my girls had a hand in the demise of two baby rabbits. :( I'm not sure why, but these bunny mothers keep making nests in our rose bushes and under our deck. Three dogs and a fenced in yard and they keeping make our yard their home! They were so little and they all picked them up. They didn't viciously attack them, but since they were small, just carrying them was enough. I really think they thought it was one of their stuffed animals they carry around 24/7. When I told them to drop, they all did and looked at it like they didn't know what it was. Two others we rushed to the vet and he was able to save one and turn it over to a wildlife rescue! :) I know it's instinct, but I still cried for those little bunnies! |
As cute as they are, they were bred to be hunters. I have no doubt that Rhett would kill something small if he got ahold of it; he has a really strong "terrier shake" move. |
don't feel bad you had no way of knowing he would kill it. last summer Gatsby and my moms pug Suzie wear playing out on my moms back deck and a squirrel, a full grown squirrel came onto the deck to eat the dog food and Suzie had been chasing this squirrel off for weeks my mom said but then when Gatsby came to play they cornered it and killed it we felt so bad because we knew it come on the deck and let it go we did nothing to stop it i was horrified but my dad laughed because at the time Gatsby weighed only just under 5 pounds and Suzie has only one eye but the two of them still took down a 8 pound squirrel with two good eyes, plenty of claws and the ability to jump on the railing and get free. |
hunters since they were bred to hunt rats, is it ok to let them hunt mice in your house? We have several in our basement I would love to get rid of. |
Ahhh! Other people are admitting to harboring killers, so I guess I can share my story. A few weeks ago, a squirrel got trapped in the garage (we didn't know it was there, but I guess the dogs did!). When we opened the door between the house and the garage, the dogs went tearing out to the garage and started to chase it. Stupid squirrel ran into the house . Well, the Pitty was standing there in the hallway trying to figure out what the commotion was from the small ones was all about, when the squirrel ran past him. Like greased lightning (hard to do for an old, arthritic 14 year old Pitty), he reached a foot out and trapped the squirrel by the tail. MEANWHILE, here comes Puddie hot on the trail of the squirrel, which, by now was conveniently trapped. I think the poor squirrel died of a heart attack when Nitro stepped on its tail, but you can't prove it by Puddie. Nitro released the squirrel to Puddie (Ah, here ya go, Son! Your first kill :D!) - then we had to chase Puddie all over God's green earth to get the squirrel away from him. Mind you, this is in the house, in, under, and around furniture! There is a WHOLE new 'tude about squirrels around the house these days ;) |
My ruby must not have this killer instinct! I had her at a friends house who had her pet hamster out and was holding it in her hands. Ruby seemed interested so she brought them face to face... she just sniffed it haha. |

My Max is a soppy puppy! He has a best friend better known as our Rabbit! By accident my partner left our Rabbits cage open, we let Max out and then noticed Max and Rabbit together with Max licking Rabbits nose and face LOL. They now spend afternoons laying in the sun snuggled up together! Must get picture of this soon! I'm constantly keeping my eyes on them though...just incase!! |
Mine killed a whole nest of baby bunnies:(they chased down and killed 4 in one week it took me a whole month to get rid of the fleas from them.I had momma that I couldn't flea dip so they kept coming back. |
We had a tiny dwarf bunny that the Yorkies (Pommies could care less) and kitty were actually afraid of. She would rear up on her hind legs flailing her front feet and growl if they bugged her too much. We also have a cockatiel that has the respect of my dogs and Missy Cat. She is free to fly if she so prefers but mostly stays on her cage...(she's getting old.) Once in awhile she decides to take a flight around the room and misses the cage on her return approach. Everyone (mostly the Yorkies) is interested in why she is on the floor but they keep their distance. She spreads her wings and hisses. Everyone takes a few steps back.:) I'm grateful that I don't have that to worry about. Now the outside bunnies, birds, and cats are an entire different story.:D ~Joanne~ |
My new puppy is the great worm killer, she thinks it is great fun to ponce on a worm and then bring it to us. She is so proud, my son is really grossed out as he lets her kiss him on the face. Great life lesson before kissing know what the other party has been doing with there mouth. |
Funny stories!!! We had mice in the house but my boys were useless with those. We needed traps. LOL My 'doggy sitter' friend has a bunny that is about 8lbs and my boys are 6lbs and 11lbs, they were fine together. No problems at all. Fletcher was all over the bunny but not to hurt it at all and Dexter could care less really, the bunny was not treats, nor was it mom, so it held no interest to him! haha |
Our Bailey is a veteran mouse killer. She's gettin good at it too! We can tell when she's hot on the trail. She sniffs around, tracks, stalks, points.....and then POUNCE!!! Most of the time she comes up empty handed - but sometimes she comes up with a field mouse - then she gives it the death shake. She's real good about droping it on command - I get the pooper scooper and toss it asap. Hubby is a hunter and couldn't be more proud of our lil' sweetie. :) |
killer yorkies I saw mine pounce a big black bird today....they taught him a lessen...he swoops down to eat their food when they are outside playing in my flowers...he didn't even see all 8 yorkies coming....DUMB bird!!!....LOL |
Mine's not a killer yet....but he dreams about it all the time. I have a bird feeder in the flowerbed outside the front window and Boo Boo sits on the back of the couch and barks at anything that moves, sometimes he even growls. But he is very selective about what he is willing to attack. My neighbor's Giant Mastiff's are fair game for barking and growling. The skunk that was hiding under the boat trailer, however, didn't even warrant an "inside bark". And the garter snake we found today made me and boo boo jump back and yelp! I don't know what we will do this summer after I get the yard fenced in and he can run around without the leash! I'm hoping the bunnies will be safe, the chipmunks too...but the skunks are on their own!! |
Sasha tried to hunt 2 squirrels today while on our walk. Luckily they ran up the tree & I kept her close to me or else she would've tried! About a year ago, we used to have cockatiels. One of them was leaning over the cage door stretching, lost her footing & fell. Well Sasha just scooped her up in her mouth, but thankfully she didn't bite down. She didn't really have a chance considering everyone screamed at her so she dropped her right away. I felt bad though because later on, she must've been so shocked from all our screams that all she wanted to do was sit in the corner in the dark, poor thing didn't wanna step foot in the house. It's like she knew she had done wrong. We had to entice her to come back in the house. |

OMG....I cant stop laughing at this story....I think are dogs are related....except our critter was a possium....it was all i could do to get it from them....Lol...we killed it trying to get in my doggie door and while hubby was carring it to dispose....one of mine jumped up and grabbed it and took off with all the others following and barking....I have 8 yorkies...so you have to picture me yelling him chasing and all the neighbors out on a sat afternoon doing yard work....It is still funny just the thought of it. |
