Determaning age? How do you tell how old a dog is that you do not have any info on? Any one with any ideas would be grateful for info thanks |
i'm not sure what you mean by you have no info on it? did you just happen to find it? did someone give it to you and not know the age? even shelters give an estimated age (although usually wrong). i got my pup from a shelter and was told she was 10.5 weeks old. i thought she looked big for that age, but whatever. i took her to the vet and the vet looked at her teeth and told me she was 4 months old. so, the educated answer would be, "by looking at the teeth." but MY answer would be, "take it to the vet!" because if you don't know the age, it obviously hasn't been. |
determaning age The person that I got him from was not to forth coming with info. She said she only had him for 2 wks but couldn't remember the info on the guy she had gotten him from. I know he is scared to death of everything. He is very skiddish. He is a sweatheart though. I will take him to the vet and see what they say.thank you for the advise |
yeah, the vet can tell you and i suggest you take him ASAP! the vet told me my pup's age after looking at her teeth for literally 2 seconds - of course she had to go to school forever to know how to do that! |

Nikki who I took in after his owner had a stroke had gotten Nikki as a rescue 2 years ago. Based on her vets exam and teeth he thought he was about 11 at that time. He since had all his teeth removed and when I took him to my vet, he thought he was closer to 15. Nikki has white cloudy eyes and small cataracts. |
