How old is too old?? We had our two dogs out for a walk and met this man with a toy poodle. We started talking and he tells me that he's got his poodle out to see if he can get her to start labour. This is her first and last litter. Then he tells me that she is seven years old and she's greying around the muzzle - we were just curious, isn't seven way too old for a first litter or any litter at all. What is the oldest, saftest age for a dog to give birth. Yep, both of ours are neutered, but I can't stop thinking about this little pup. |
 That is way too old! That poor baby! What in the world were they thinking? |
Oh my the poor thing. 6 is too old, 7 is WAY too old. |
too old to be having any litter and way way way too old for a first litter. :( |
what's the right age? |
Between 2 and 5. First litter before the age of 4. |
Yes...seven is most certainly too old! Poor girl. :( Opinions vary, but I would never breed a female for the first time if she was older than 3. |
Thanks for all of the responses - I didn't know what to say to him as he said it was her first and last litter - hopefully she'll be okay. I had never seem them before but hopefully I'll come across them and I'll let you know how things turn out. I used to raise cats and would NEVER breed a cat that old for the first time - makes you wonder what goes through people's minds, if anything but money!! |
That would explain why 7 would be really bad! |
7 years in dog years is equivalent to 49 yrs old in human years!!! YESS WAY TOOOO OLD!! I hope you can help this pup by telling this man that she is way to old and that it will put her life at risk. Hopefully he cares and is a responsible owner and will spay her. |
Oh good grief!! Only an idiot  would do such a thing.. Seven? holy cow.. |
