Is it better to have 2? I have been considering getting a second yorkie a boy!! Trudy will be turning one next month, and wondering how she would be with sharing her dads? We have a lot of love to give, just not sure how the baby girl would be? Would really like input and opinions on this! |
We went from 2 to 3 then to 4. It's alot of work taking care of 4 pups ranging from 3 to 15 yrs old. The pups are healthy, Zipp has early kidney problems and cataracts but he is 15. I still work, rotating shifts and after JB the pups are next. I do enjoy taking care of them. They pay back many more times with their love, affection and trust. If you are unsure you may want to consider helping a rescue group by fostering a pup or two to see if you are able to manage taking care of two dogs and, if Trudy is ok with other dogs staying in her house. Hope this helps. |
There are things that are easier and things that are harder in my opinion. It is harder to travel with two. It is more costly to have two. Everything takes longer, dinner time, grooming time, walks, etc. With two they can play with each other and therefore require less of your attention. With two you dont have to feel as bad when you leave them. With two there are twice as many kisses. Overall, in my opinion having two has more benefits and I dont think I would ever be with one again. My older one was a bit jealous at first and didnt want to share anything, me, his toys, his food, etc. But he got over that and realized that he had a great play buddy and that I still loved him just as much as before. Good Luck with your decision. |
I say if you have the time and finances to take care of 2 then go for it. It may take a few days but they will get used to each other. Good luck with whatever you decide:) |
Thank you for your input, it helps. It's not a matter of taking care of two, I know that wont be a problem. Trudy is great with other dogs when they visit. I just wish she could tell me if she wants to share lol. |

Some dogs love a companion, some prefer to be the only dog. |

I had doubts too. I didn't know if I could love another just as much as our first. I didn't want to cheat Gracie from attention etc. You know how it is being an only "child"...Well the right one came along and she is an absolute joy to us!~Couldn't imagine not having her in our lives. Go for it! |

for me it's a current financial reason holding me back but if I could have the second one I would in a heart beat! I also worry about her sharing her time with another dog! she's just so full of love for us and sometimes i wonder if she had a play mate if she would give less love...but I doubt it! I sound like a jealous friend! ha ha! I think once baby number 2 arrives you'll look back and wonder why you never did it sooner :) |

I just got my 2nd yorkie a week and a half ago. I can honestly say that some things are worse and somethings are better. Overall, I do not regret my decision to get a 2nd. Once the puppy stage is over things will get easier. I get more time to myself for the most part, as so far they've been wrestling each other tired, then they both climb up on me for a nap. I'm loving that, lol. You certainly won't regret getting 2 as long as you have the time and money to devote to them. They are great! |
When we had Toffee we had chow chows, and that was fine. When they went to heaven, we just kept her as 'an only child'! When she went up to heaven it was devastating because she was my baby. I now have my Mr. Darcy (the light of my life!) and I am getting another Yorkie baby girl this Spring - I am looking now. I don't know if I am right or not, but having one to comfort you if you lose one seems a little better than a house so quiet that you don't even want to be in there.....Mr. Darcy is alone in the summer when I work, and I want him to have a companion!!:) |
I have already decided that the 2nd one will be a boy, so that Trudy doesn't feel that she has to compete with another girl. Or share any of her girl things. lol |

My Lady has several chronic health issues. I am so glad I never added another. I know I wouldn't have been able to get her the vet care I have if I'd had another one. She is 14.5 years old. One ER visit can run $1,000. |
