How did you come up with? I was wondering how YT members came up with their furbabies names? ;) As for my Twinkie...I wanted to name her Daisy or Ladybug, (my two favorite things), but my hubby and youngest son, said they would not take her for a walk and call out those names! So, day two, my son came home from school and said we should name her Twinkie. He thought since she was the same size of the yellow, cream stuffed snack, it would fit her to a T. I love her name, it's not very common and we call her Twink for short. What are some of your stories? :animal36 |
I named Louis after my favorite purse, Louis Vuitton. :) |
My husband named our yorkie Samy, but on his passport I decided to name him Samuel. But we call him Samy. |
My daughter (then 17) named Brody after Adam Brody (Seth) from the tv show The O.C. I named Rhianna Belle after the Fleetwood Mac song Rhiannon . . .we had a rabbit once named Rhiannon, so I didn't want to re-use the name, so we shortened it up and added the Belle. |
I don't blame you for naming your baby after your favorite purse. If I had a boy and the same purse, I would have done the same.:D I also love the name Sammy! I like that name for a skinkid too.;) Thank you for sharing.... |

I made a list of names for my little guy and then promptly named him something that I found myself calling him -- Buddy. It was between Buddy and Shadow and I'm beginning to think I should have picked Shadow instead of Buddy. I am hoping that, once he is comfortable here, he will no longer be my Shadow but he will always be my Buddy! Good thread. |
I thought of the name Bella for my last grandchild but my son and his wife ended up not using it! (It's not my fault they had a boy) Anyway, I loved the name and when I realized I was going to get a female that was the first named that popped out of my mouth. Then I had to find something that went with it. |
Olive was the name of the main character in Little Miss Sunshine.. and I love that movie! I'd love to use the name for a skin kid one day, but I think it would be kinda mean and the name suits my furbaby so well! I love how I've never met another dog named Olive! |
We brought Chip home and as we were playing with him, my mom was searching the internet for cute names. She would call a bunch of things out and we would say "Nah!" or "Possibly". She wrote down all our maybes. We went to bed that night thinking Chip but weren't totally decided. The next day Chip was very sick and had to be taken to the vet. The vet asked my husband for his name and just told her it was Chip. Chip was his favorite name out of them all and it just stuck. Smokey came to us with that name. He had already been through so much (long story) that we decided not to bother changing his name. My mom begged me to change it though because it reminded her of smoking. Most of the time we call just call him Mokey. He actually responds better to "Mokey" than "Smokey". |

When we got Tink everyone in the family was tossing around names and my youngest daughter had just seen Tinkerbell the movie and kept calling her that. My DH said no way so we kept tossing around names for 2 more days. Mean while my daughter kept calling her Tinkerbell. We suddenly realized that she was responding to that name. So we stuck with it. My DH is still in denial  and will only call her Tink. But we love it! |
I feel like I have missed out on something very important.... all mine came to me with names already... I'm going to rename all of them ... |
Love, Love, Love the movie Little Miss Sunshine! Olive is actually one of my favorite names. Why didn't I think to name Twinkie that? Darn! :p[/QUOTE] There's always next time ;) |
I knew I wanted to name mine after designers... so I just picked designer names that worked as pet names also. Hence Armani & Chloe |
Our girls are named after baseball fields: Crosley Wrigley Camden People always think they are boys, but their not! :D |
When I first got Taz I didn't know what to name him. I wanted to find a name that fit his personality. It took a few days..and I came up with Taz for the simple fact, he was so small, and new to our family but he acted like he had known us from birth he was a true Tazmanian Devil! We came up with Taz but mommy calls him Tazzy! |
I love all of these names and the stories behind them! My Louis Dauphin is named after King Louis XIV of France and Paris Antoinette is named after Marie Antoinette Queen of France and Napoleon is named after Napoleon of France! I have a MA in public policy and history and have a thing for euro history and loved reading all there was to read on Marie Antoinette so that is my story! Our yorkie family is complete and their names fit them to a t as well! I love little dogs that have big imposing names and any dog that has a people name! My sister's yorkie's name is Ross...my best friend's yorkie's name is Nina and I knew a person who named hers "Dave" which was hilarious!! I love names so it was fun to come up with ours! |
I chose my boy's name years before I would get him. I love anime and manga, and I also love having unique things. (ex. everyone has an iPod, so I got a Clix, no one I know has one of those!!) I knew giving my pup a anime/manga inspired name would guarantee some "uniqueness" to his name. Not that I think anyone would know, but Kaji came from one of the supporting characters of Neo Genesis Evangelion, it was an easy name to pronounce, even for my Spanish speaking parents. He was such a womanizer in the anime and to my surprise Kaji loves the ladies, so his name fits.:D:p |
I had pretty much decided to name my next dog Clover because I absolutely love all things Irish, especially shamrocks! But I felt that Clover sounded kinda like a name for a rabbit so on the drive home from picking our Yorkie up, my husband and I were trying to decide between Lily and Chloe (short for Clover). Jokingly, I looked at the pup and said "Lily!". She ignored me. I said "Chloe!" and she looked up at me. Total coincidence I know, but that decided it!! We thought about calling her Clover Lily but decide on Clover Belle because my mother's maiden name is Bell and it sounded pretty. I also like that Chloe and Belle both end in 'e' and are the same number of letters. I think it looks pretty written out. It also nice to kind of have a "theme" for your dog. Anything I see with clovers on it, I have to buy for her!! -C |
Who knew you could learn so many things about a person, just by posting this thread?! I love all of the stories! By the way, our scottie/cairn terrier is named Halo, after the video game Halo! Can you tell my now 25 year old son came up with that one?! Thank you for sharing! :yelrotflm |

We had just watched the movie Walk the Line about Johnny Cash. My mom loved the song "Jackson" and suggested it to me... I took another look at Jackson's picture before I owned him.. and he just looked like a Jackson! I also always liked MJ so it kinda had a double meaning... I just liked the name! |
Thomas J was named after the skinny sickly boy on the 'My Girl' movie.. We are very happy he doesnt look like that anymore! |
My husband was so sweet about getting Sarge that I let him pick the name---he named him after the world war I hero, Sergeant York , so he's Sergeant Yorkie, Sarge for short. Lexi has her name just because I liked it :) :animal-pa Cathy, mom to :aimeeyork Sarge and :aimeeyork Lexi :animal-pa |
