questions pls help I received my yorkie (max) today, and he has been sleeping all day. He looks scared. He did eat a little (royal canine) and I have given him nutri cal-- is there anything i can do to make him feel at home, I have been around him all day.. and showing him love.. just want him to feel at home. I am sad he seems sad:confused: |
Is he cold? I made sure I kept Pixie warm when I first got her. You can try warming up a blanket in the dryer and wrapping him up in it. He just left his mommy and litter mates so he is going to be a lil sad. Just make sure you hold him and love him and that he eats well. He should perk up in a few days. I would give Pixie nutri cal every night before bed the first week I had her bc I did not want her to get hypoglycemic. Make sure he is drinking as well even if you have to dip your finger in the water bowl and slowly lower it to get him to drink. Congrats on your new baby!! |
Awwww congratulations on your new baby. Give him a little time. He's just been taken out of the only home he's known and now he's in a strange place with strange people, strange sounds and strange smells. Pretty traumatic and exhausting for a little fella. Let him set the pace, keep the nutri-cal handy just in case, and in a few days he'll start feeling more at home. Did his breeder send anything from his/her home, something with a familiar smell that would give him comfor, something like a little blanket or towel that he and his mama and/or siblings had slept on? If so, that'll help him settle in faster, having something familiar from his first home will help him feel more at home with you. |

Chloe was like that too... but she ate normally thank god.. just give him some time to get used to his new surroundings he should be just fine in a couple of days! & welcome to YT! :) |

congrats! i would offer food often, but keep the nutrical on hand just in case you notice him getting hypoglycemic. I would just keep being nice to him, but give him some time in his kennel so he can hide from everything every once in a while. I think within a couple days he will be feeling much more comfortable with you guys!!! |
He's still adjusting. It'll take time. Just make sure he is eating enough and try to keep things in your house calm for him until he's settled in. Try letting him sleep with a shirt that you've worn that smells like you. :) Congrats, BTW. |
Ruger didn't eat and just slept the day I got him. The next day he barely ate anything, and the third day he was fine. I don't have that much experience, but it all sounds normal to me. |
when i first got my puppy, she wouldn't let me leave her sight! she literally slept on top of my feet if i was sitting on the couch or at the computer. that way, she could feel me get up and follow me where i went! and that she did! after a few days, i thought...my goodness..has she not figured out yet if i'm barefoot and turn the corner, i'm just going to the bathroom and will be right back?! a few days later she got off of my feet and would sit behind me on the couch, right against my back so she knew if i got up (i sit on the edge - i'm weird - like someone sipping tea with their pinky up, lol) anyway, she followed me for a couple of days, but it was an improvement from sitting on my feet. a few days after that - she would lift her head up and perk up when i got up, but she wouldn't follow me or come looking as long as i came right back. it takes time to build trust - i think that's all it is - your puppy has to learn to trust you. it will come pretty quick - you know she/he can trust you, but she/he has to make sure. |
