When I first adopted Adromeda, I started saying that to anyone who tried. So much can happen in just a second. |
Well its a form of flattery because you baby is so cute but at the same time they should ask especially because the pup is young! But I agree people try to swamp bella sometimes when we go out which is very few far between. Your yorkie is adorable who couldnt resist!! :) |

With all of the Yorkie-stealing going on there's no way I'd let anyone that wasn't a close friend pick up the little one. There was a similar thread months ago and the response that seemed to get the most votes was "Look out, he bites!" If that doesn't stop them, just say "Look out, I bite!!" |
Well I don't have a problem with my Maltese since she's so hyper, she starts barking her head off and jumping while circling and running all at once and does the bunny dance standing with her hind legs and clapping her front paws. Even man who are 6ft tall get scared of my lil one:eek: Some even look like there confronting a big pitbull or something. And all she wants to do is play. My yorkie on the other hand is so timid but she's learning to do the dance also. I don't believe it's ok to hug/carry them but I do let people pet my girls, while I'm holding them. I believe is a good way for my dogs to socialize. |
NO need for my dog to get picked up, he picks who he wants to visit by jumping on their laps whenever he feels like it! it's funny, but not so funny, because I feel like he doesn't have manners lol I can't get him to stop doing that when he's at the dog park... he is always making human friends!! but it is a surprise to the person who all of a sudden has this strange dog on their laps. |
hate that! Funny I came across this because just yesterday we were at the dog park and a lady brought her young daughter and puppy there and the daughter was running up to the other puppies (specifically a dachshund) and picking them up and they looked like they were teetering and about to fall...as the mother was just chatting away on her phone not paying attention to any of this:thumbdown I could tell the girl who owned the dachsy puppy was very nervous but didn't know how to tell the little girl no so she just ended up leaving! not fair! |
that is so insane that an adult would just walk up and pick up a dog - or let their child do it! i won't even let my kids approach dogs. if we're close to someone with a dog, i tell them no when they get excited and start approaching....and usually the owner will say, "they can pet him/her if you don't mind." that's when i let them and only then - but they still don't pick them up. that's just weird. people used to ask to hold my kids when they were babies and i would just say NO. |
First time here!!! Hi my name is Victoria Fortune, My husband and i are station in Korea, and we bought our first Yorkie in December his name is Whisper, we both work so we felt bad about Whisper been home alone that we decided to get another puppy, we got Bishop he is toy Yorkie they are both adorable, very different personalities, Whisper is more playfull, outgoing, hyper, and was a lot more easy to potty train, Bishop is very lay back, he doesn't do much, but we love bothe our babies! |

welcome to YT! :D |
it's funny to read all the responses on picking up the puppy without permission. Before I even read the responses, my answer was a resounding, NO. Puppies especially are unpredictable when your holding them. Even the most experienced handler can fumble occasionally. My puppies are like my kids. I wouldn't let strangers pick up my child either. If the approach isn't right, it can cause the dog to be forever skiddish. I have one that was effected by a small child grabbing him from behind. He now doesn't tolerate children @ all. |

No way. I've seen people try it at the dog park a few times... it's different if you KNOW the person but it's really odd to pick up someone's dog you don't know. Luckily, Jackson's a bigger boy but I know his Yorkie friends Bandit and Nala get the "strangers wanting to pick them up" more often and it's just irritating. |

The dog park is for the dogs to enjoy themselves, ya know?! Let them run around and have fun!:D |
It happened to me for the first time yesterday in a bar. I hated it, but didn't say anything as the guy picked him up properly and held him correctly. But, I definitely won't let it happen again. I just though the guy was going to pet him and was kinda in shock when it happened. |
...when is it ok? NEVER. |
I have the SAME EXACT problem!! It bugs me SO MUCH! I don't understand why people don't realize it's RUDE to pick up other people's dog without permission. I noticed you live in San Jose. which dog park do you go to? I go to the one on Camden and Reed st. |
Nope, not ok. |

Absolutely not!! Not only at a dog park, but anywhere! Heck, I wouldn't approach someone's pet without asking if they mind. |

When people approach and want to handle my dog and (at least have the good sense to ask) if she bites. I just say "yes". (she hasn't bitten any one to date nor shown any indication she would, but in the end she's a dog and any dog could bite) That usually backs them off, but I have met people with babies in those little front chest carriers lean over to pet my dog and their baby's face falls within an inch of my dog's nose. And they do it so fast it's hard to stop them. I discourage strangers, particularly children and sudden movements on their part just because I'd hate for something to happen, as we've all heard, "they never bit anyone before..." statement ...right after their dog bit someone (for the first time). |

Absolutely not, and you may want to be careful going to dog parks...think about it. |
