What is up with Reesie outside??? Reesie is such a sweet guy, but when he goes outside he turns into a terror. He does not listen and runs from me when I try to go pet him or pick him up. What is up with that?? If he is on his leash he obeys, but once he is off he is such a brat! Why?? |
LOL! Maybe he thinks the outside is where he is the Alpha dog :) He knows you rule him in the house and on the leash. |
He is such a little stinker!!!! |
LOL! What a stinker. I would just practice with him outside. Get a long leash if ya can, maybe a 30 foot nylon leash that he can drag around outside... so he can run around but you can catch him easier and have a bit more control. Practice your obedience drills that you do inside, outside! |

...and one more note. Always, always, always treat them they come. I don't use a leash outside - I use a bag 'o cheerios. Bailey doesn't go far when she knows I have treats! |
Well, it is so much fun being outside. Perhaps he thinks you are going to take him in and he doesn't want to go. |

That reminds me of a question I have been wanting to ask. And I'm not trying to steal a thread - I think it is in the same vein. I give my dogs a little treat when they come inside from going potty. If they, like Reesie, refuse to listen and come in when called do I NOT give them a treat when they finally do come in? Seems like there would be no motivation for listening if rewarded every time for coming through the door. |

Just like my own Reesie. She gets a look on her face that says 'I'M FREE! I'm FREE!' LOL!!! |
baddddd pup! lol Try practicing inside using a ball and throwing it to him and telling him to bring it back. Praising him or giving him a treat when he brings it back. Always use his name when he grabs the ball up "GOOD BOY REESIE!!! BRING IT BACK!" We did this with Shea and not even meaning to make this work so well outside, but it really does! She is so good outside. Surprisingly enough. Even at the dog park we can throw her something and she will bring it right back. Give it a try! Let us know how it goes:) |
Thanks everyone! Great ideas!:) |
When we go outside, my babies go deaf!!!! |

I usually give one about every 4th time Molly brings her ball back. I think its better to give enough to let them know they might get a treat, but not so they expect one everytime. |
