Bailey is suppose to get spayed Bailey is suppose to go get spayed next month. Is she too little? She is only 2 lbs. She will be almost 5 1/2 months by then. |
IMO, there is no reason to do it so soon, esp. at around three poiunds. I'd wait awhile. |
I would hold off... my girl was about 4 pounds at that age and I still waited until she was 10 months. |
That's what I was thinking. I wanted to get her microchipped since we are moving in a couple of months and was going to do it all at the same time. should I wait until or do it now? I am so worried it will hurt her and if I get it done when she gets spayed then she will be asleep for it. |
i waited to get Sofia fixed until she was older, 8 months because she was so small. She was still only 2.5lbs, when she had her surgery and they could not remove her baby teeth at the same time. She had that surgery a month later, still at 2.5lbs. She did great with both, I don't see any reason to do it too early, you just want to have it done before her first heat, you still have some time. As for the microchipping I would do it at the same time. |
I know this is going to sound stupid but how do you know when they are going to have their first heat |
If I were you, I'd wait a little while. Let her get a little bigger, and see if her baby teeth all fall out, cause if they don't and some need to be pulled it can be done during spay. The first heat cycle is usually sometime between 6 and 12 months. I just had my 2 youngest spayed yesterday and they are almost a year old, and did already have one heat cycle; which is what my vet recommends. |
1st heat for Yorkies usually runs around 10-14 months.....i would wait until at least 7-8 months to spay in case she has some retained baby teeth to be removed...might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone....you don't want to put her under more than once if you don't have to. as far as microchipping you can do that anytime...they do not need to be put under for it...hope that helps |
Sadie was 8 mths. when she was spayed, chipped & her teeth done at 3 1/2 lbs. I wouldn't have done it any other way. |
