Now I Feel Soooo Bad!!!!! :( :( I am trying to break Mason of barking at me and biting my feet..so...I took some advice on here and did that money in a can thing..I did it and now hes scared to death, even when i dont have it in my sight. He hunkers down and walks real slow and will hardly come to me now! :( I feel so bad...ppl raved about this and i tried it and now my baby is scared to death :mad: I feel like such a bad mommy and could cry! :( :( :( :( :( Kristy and Mason |
I'm sorry this didn't not work for you..I have used it and it worked great to help stop barking. And don't feel like a bad mommy, he still loves you. Just give him some time he will be back to his puppy self again. Every now and then I still have to get out the can when mine backslides and starts barking again. You just have to find out what works best with your pup...good luck ..Sherry |
Oh poor baby, I guess some things work for some babies, and it's not the same for others. He will come around, he just didn't like the can. Never feel like a bad mommy, we all have to try things to see if it works or not. In this case it didn't. But, you know he loves you, and he knows you love him. He was scared, but soon he will forget about it. Hang in there!!! |
Bless his heart...I guess that's not the trick to use on him...poor little guy - I would be so upset too....you're not a bad mom - you just tried something that didn't work for you but I sure know how you feel...I hate when they get upset also .... So.....do some serious sucking up and give your baby lots of kisses ....and I bet he'll be fine after he gets over being scared.... :) |
Oh! I'm so sorry that backfired on you. Villette is right. You need to do some serious sucking-up! That always works! :D I have used the coins in a can a few times. It stopped Miss Kacee from some bad habits, but it didn't scare her like it did Mason. Some are just more sensitive than others. I know a lot of us have used that technique. You better run out and buy about a hundred new toys! :D He will get over that, though. In the long run, you may have helped the situation as well, even though in the short run you have an unexpected sensitivity. I think we all run into these little bumps along the way. You aren't the first! :) |
Don't feel like a bad mommy. That has work for others, maybe not for you, but that is not your fault. He still loves you. Im so sorry he is so scare. I agreed you just need to keep trying and see w hat works for you. Good luck. |
My brother has a new little mini doxi and he did the same to him because he is forocious on his feet, anyway he too is scared to death! It will depend on the personality of your pup if it works, it didn't work on my Tinkerbell because it would make her mad and she would bark back at it and try to attack it LOL. After he recovers you might want to try the water bottle, that had a better effect for us. |
I agree with everyone. Every pup is different. My yorkie loves for you to squirt water at her. She attacks the sprinkler system or hose when it comes on. It actually rained here in San Diego and for a few minutes we got a semi- heavy downpour. Guess where Roxie was? Outside running around- trying to do a Gene Kelly dance :cool: . I had to force her to come in. :mad: You gotta love em! :p |
I am sorry that didnt work for you. It works on my dogs. I also use the water bottle for barking and it works so you might wanna try that next time. |
I know this sounds weird but it worked for me. For the hand thing, put you hands up and say my hands are not toys, let's get a toy and then go get one and play. Repeat everytime he wants to play with your hands. For barking, get down to his level or pull him onto your lap, whisper, no barking. Continue until he stops, just for a little while, a second or two, treat big time when he gets quiet. My Lacey is scared of almost anything, I can put a package on the floor and because it usually isn't there, she backs away, so don't feel bad, we all do things we think are great that backfire sometimes. |
:cry: He still wont hardly come to me......:( when i hold him he wants to get down and is now laying there sleeping in the middle of the room..which he always sleeps by my feet! :( im so heartbroken..Thanks for all the advice though but i still feel like such a bad momma!! :( :sad: |
You are not a bad mommie. Sometimes the things we use to alter behavior will backfire on us. These babies are sensitive to our moods and ,I swear, they know how to use that to make us feel like a penny with a hole in it. I would drop his favorite toy or treats at my feet when I sit down and when he can trust that the mean ole can-thingy is not gonna scare him, he will be back. BUT, I bet he will not bite your feet again. It is hard to tell just how far we can go in training them. We all have made mistakes and feel terrible. But, Yorkies are forgiving and when they are ready they let you back into their world again. He will come around, he has learned a lesson and so have you..Good luck and give him time.. |

Oh you are NOT a bad Mommy to Mason. Maybe the can w/ coins was just a little too loud/large, and a tiny can w/ only one or two coins might work?? I know I have heard that the pet is not to know that "us humans" are tossing the can, it\'s to be a surprise??? Did Mason know this can throwing came from you? I\'m sure that soon w/ all the extra hugs and kisses Mason will come around quickly and not be fearful. I am just no expert on training that\'s for sure and I hope you find a better solution that works for both you and Mason. :aimeeyork |
