It Was Sure Unexpected... Hi, Miloh is 5 months old, from the moment that I first brought him home he became very much attatched to me. Whether I get home from school or work, Miloh is always the first to welcome me home and cannot seem to settle down until I either hug him or play with him. This weekend he began to do something very funny yet strange to me. Yesterday while he was laying in bed with me, we began playing tug-a-war, until he put his front paws on my arm and began to "air hump". :shocked7q At first I didn't know what he was doing until he continued to do it and I guess it freaked me out because I was like, "Oh my, what the?". He did the same thing a few minutes ago as we played on the couch, I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with this. I wouldn't want him to do it to a family member or friend. All advice would be highly appreciated, thank you. :) |
I don't have a lot of experience with this, but I think if you have him neutered he will stop. The way more experienced members will know better then I. Good luck. |
No. They don't STOP when neutered. But it will help. Also maturity will also be your biggest help. |
Thomas stopped when he was neutered. Another dog we have (an outside dog)..never stopped! |
Hi Erica :) Samy does this to his baby bed at night but not to people (unless the person smells like a female dog then he might do it but not necessarily). What I think is, if you two were playing, he probably wanted to show dominance. Yorkies (females and males) show dominance by humping :) When he does it, just tell him sharply NO and every time he does it say NO again and eventually he will know not to do it to people. But this is really cute and funny hahaha they are sooo funny when they do it.. I watch Samy do it to his baby bed every night before wanting to sleep.. be pulls his baby bed into his big bed and does it hahahaha |
Sandy started doing that to his toys when he's only 4 months old! He did it to my feet a couple of times  I screamed, 'Don't try to dominate me! I'm your mommy!!!!!' and he stopped :D He did that to my fiance too who found it funny  |
Mr. Darcy did try it a few times, in the morning when we woke up in bed, on my husband's arm - but that was when he was a few months old. Now he is one and a half and hasn't done it in a long time - so I think they outgrow it - hopefully:rolleyes: |
I have two little girls, Cassie and Muffin. Cassie is between 2 and 2.5 lbs on a good day, and Muffin is a ‘mighty’ (LOL) 3.5lbs- a little more plump and cuddly, and not quite as fragile as Cassie. Both of them are TINY little girls!!! But Cassie, my tiniest, is OBSESSED with humping Muffin. That’s all she would want to do day and night is jump on top of Muffin and hump away. Cassie is the oldest, just turned 3, and was here first. Then came Muffin who will be two in May. I do think it is a dominance thing. But Muffin really does not seem to mind at all. In fact, Muffin will lay on her back and Cassie will just jump aboard and hump away. It really is hysterical to see them. Muffin laying on her back with all four paws facing up (“la dee da-oh well”) and Cassie on top furiously humping away. The funny part is Muffin is a very active, curious, mischievous little girl, not at all the quiet, demure little girl that Cassie usually is. But it seems they switch rolls when Cassie is in a humping mood. Cassie becomes the active one and Muffin becomes completely docile. In fact, it seems she encourages Cassie by laying on her back in my bed and egging Cassie on by play whining on her back with all four paws pointed up. They are so funny. |
Teegy only got neutered a couple of weeks ago but was merrily humping the females this weekend, he has slowed down on the humping of just "any" dog. I don't feel it's right to scold him because, hi he's a dog, he doesn't hump humans. I'm hoping this behaviour just fades away and he becomes a little doggy unic |

I STG that Neo started doing the nasty when he was only about 10 weeks old! He was a very dominant little boy then and now! We wound up buying him a "phucky duck" for him and he abused it like crazy :D(lol). Actually I understand that humping for the males is healthy, that it helps the testicles seat themselves. That helps especially if you plan to have him neutered, as the vet won't have as hard a time with undecended nads. |
Hi Kat! Oh wow, I've never heard of a dog "humping" his own bed. lol If you ever come down to Southern California than I'd love to meet Samy. :) I decided to see if Miloh would do it too others but it turns out he only enjoys doing it to me. ahahah I put your advice into practice last night and Miloh just looks at me and stops. So thanks for your helpful tips! |
