Eagles are back! 1 Attachment(s) Had the dogs out front with me. My husband yells at me to watch them, I hear a screach and then he shooed them away! I grabbed my cell phone but by that time they were pretty far away. Here is the photo I got of one of them. |
Scary!!! I'm glad he shooed them away!! |
Is that an eagle or a hawk? Either way . . .it's huge . . . |
They were eagles, and they are HUGE! I say they had over a six foot wingspan! |

Yikes!! We have only seen hawks around here . . .but there is this one monster one that DH saw last weekend . . .I have yet to see him . . .I hope I never do! I hate taking the babies outside and have to cower over them like a freak . . .even on their leashes I'm constantly over them . . . |
We have eagles, hawks and very bold coyotes. I have to take my mini doxie out on a leash and my yorkies are in training for pee pads indoors. :aimeeyork Be very careful with your little ones. :aimeeyork |
 |
Where I live (apox. 17 mi. inland from the beach) there are hawks, owls and eagles! Since my home is in a sort of rural area I have to be ever watchful for hawks in the daytime and owls at dusk and night. One late afternoon about 3 months ago my DH and I (and Neo) just got home from errands. Something caught my eye the same time I heard a thump and saw a puff of feathers floating down from the roof of the house. DH jumped out of the truck and followed what turned out to be a HUGE hawk. Some unfortunate dove was supper that evening (just glad it wasn't Neo!) This happened only about 30 feet from where the truck was parked and we were standing. |
I know hawks and eagles are all protected by law but I really hate the nasty things. We have hawks but we also have the biggest, ugliest vultures. They are everywhere and constantly flying around. Thankfully they do not bother anything live :tongue4: They have a wingspan of around 5 feet and they weigh up to 5 pounds. |
In a few more weeks, the eggs will be hatching and they'll be hunting for their young. They get very aggressive then. Worse, they intentionally don't kill so the young get the practice back in the nest. It's bad enough for wild rabbits, squirrels and the like - but it is especially horrible to contemplate for our pampered babies. If you know they're around, be very careful. |
Bald eagles and Ospreys are fish eaters, but other eagles and hawks and owls are scary. |
Thanks for the warning. We're neighbors. (by just a few miles) |
I live in South MS. I normally would see a hawk or two at my parents' place, but this was before i had Bella and before i even thought of big birds taking small dogs and such. i hadn't seen any recently, until today. i decided to take my babies out for a walk around our apt complex after Easter Sunday Mass and saw a huge hawk circling overhead. it flew in our direction and swooped down a few feet. Instantly i picked both my babies up, and it flew on past. Needless to say i promptly went inside after that. |
