That's great to hear! Crate training helped a lot for us. So here's what we did.

1. Kept him in a very small part of the kitchen with a peepad when we weren't at home. It was pretty important for us to keep him in a smaller space so he could learn better.

2. When we were home, either crate him or watch him like s hawk.

3. Since Its too hard to know when he's about to go, we just put him on his potty area every 2 hours or so and trained him to go on command.

4. Now that he's pretty reliable, he stays in the living room\kitchen when we are not home. Then right when we come home we put him on his potty area which is now outside. Then every few hours we will put him out again.

5. At nit he's in his crate then we put him out to potty first thing in the morning.

Oh, also a product called Natures Miracle is really handy because it gets rid of the smell if he has an accident. This is important because it'll keep your house unnasty and it will keep your dog from smelling his urine and thinking he should do at the same wrong spot again.

This is so sad. When you are 15 your parents really do not take your
opinions seriously. But I must say you are a very smart young lady.
Perhaps much more than your mother knows. I agree that hitting him
is wrong. Crate him or keep him by your side always. And take him
out often. The people here at YT are the best. They can help you with any concerns so do not be afraid to ask.
And welcome to YT!

Ok so good news!

This morning I nicely asked my mom if we could try a different way of training, considering we haven't gotten anywhere. I just told her to not worry about the puppy, as I will handle him. She agreed!! He hasn't had an accident all day! I know one day isn't much, but i'm still so excited!

I want to thank everybody who replied to this thread. After reading all the posts, I dug up the courage to request a different approach on training.
Can't thank you guys enough!! :p

i was so sad when i read your first post. i am so happy for you and your puppy after i read this post. i want to wish you good luck with potty training and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions regarding how to train. :)

Yay! I'm so happy things are going better for you. As others have stated previously, you are very mature for your age and have handled the situation very well. Keep up the great work! :)

i hope your mom takes the conversation to heart and changes her method!

unfortunately, your mom isn't the only one who thinks that is the way to train a dog. i grew up watching family members do the same thing. not exactly as harsh, but they would rub the dogs nose into the mess. i was a child then so i didn't know it was wrong as it was all i had seen. luckily, i didn't have a dog until i was way older and had taken the time to read and learn about how to train one.

it's great that you know better!!

keep us updated - good luck!

I see your mom agreed to a different approach to training, so a big congrats to you!
If it hasn't been suggested yet, have you considered moving his ex-pen to your room, so when you can't watch him, it won't be your mom's responsibility? This is the setup I had after my roomie freaked out on me, I put Kaji in an expen in my room when I was gone and inside he had a bed, food, water, toys, and a piddle pad when I switched him over to piddle pads. His piddle pad was far far away from his food and sleeping area so this area was always kept clean. I had carpeting, so to protect the carpet, the entire pen sat on a plastic desk mat like this one, Staples® Economy Mat for Commercial and Low-Pile Carpets, Traditional Chairmat, 36" x 48" | Staples®. I know they make long ones but they can get expensive, but two of these worked for me, or you could use a shower curtain. I like the chair mat better because they're heavy, which makes them sturdy and they won't move around. You could leave it as is, the plastic won't hurt your little guy, or you could put a blanket to make it comfy. I have Kaji's piddle pad on a tray like this one, Premium Pad Training Tray - Training - Training & Behavior - PetSmart, so his rambunctious activity doesn't bunch up the pad and he always has a place to pee.
I know you already have a bunch of good suggestions, but I thought one more can't hurt. As long as he isn't hit, and giving you sad eyes anymore (that post made me cry) you should be ok. You don't want a dog that does submissive peeing. That's peeing because he's scared which will make your mom think he's still not trained, when in fact that is another issue all together. Kaji does that when he's in a big strange place with lots of strange noises. He freezes and pees. He also excitedly pees which is why I put his pad right at the door of his ex-pen. He always waited there for me to get him and when I reached him, he would pee right where he was, which was on top of the piddle pad, he got praised, and eventually learned the right thing by accident. I apologize if anything I said has already been said, I didn't read through all your posts. GOOD LUCK!
