Yorkie Not Sleeping Through the Night - Pls Help Hello, My male yorkie is 2. Lately, he's been whining at different times throughout the night for us to take him out (1 am, 3 am, 5 am). Whenever we turn or rollover in bed, he leaps off the bed and shakes (he thinks we're taking him out). I have tried taking away his water around 8 pm. We also take him out before we go to bed at 10:00/10:30. Not sure why this has started lately? Anyone have any suggestions so he will sleep through the night?:animal-pa |
This sounds funny considering he's 2 years old and obviously potty trained, but maybe you should try crating him during the night, like you would if you were training a puppy. Maybe he wouldn't bother you so much about it then? It's definitely a good idea to take his water away though, maybe try doing it around 8PM? |
It may be a medical issue rather than a behaviour issue. I would first get him checked by a vet to make sure he does not have a UTI or possibly canine diabetes. |

that's some good advice - could be medical. if not, has your schedule changed at all? my mom and stepdad had a problem because my mom who stayed at home all day would let the dog sleep (not much playing or walking) and then when my stepdad would get home from work at 11pm the dog would be ready for the day! wanting to go out, play, stay up, etc. does he bark? if not, what does he do if you just ignore him? |

I agree!! |
If your two year old is house trained, and this is a new recent behavior, I would definitely take him to your vet to rule out a medical issue. |

To the original poster, has any surroundings, either inside and especially outside changed. New animals in the neighbor hood? New neighbors, change in neighbors work hours. Their is so much that they sense and hear that we can't, it is sometimes hard to figure out what they are feeling around them. |
