Next week I will be flying with my sister's new pup...(a yorkie of course)...it is a 1 hour flight...which makes me feel more comfortable...has anyone ever done this before...trying to get a feel of what to expect. It isn't till after 9 pm so I'm hoping for sleep!!! :animal36:animal36Oliver and Scouts mommy! |
I fly frequently with mine...short trips such as yours and longer ones up to 7 hours. No one is even aware they're in the cabin. ;) |
Flying With Yorkie Puppy I purchased a yorkie in Indiana and flew back to Florida with her. She was very quiet on the whole trip. You are lucky you only have a 1 hour flight. With changing planes and flying to Florida, it took a very long time. It is a new experience for them, so usually they are quiet. I did experience one problem. They are supposed to be in their carrier under the seat. Something was wrong with the air conditioning by my seat on that flight and my feet were absoutely freezing. I took her out of the bag (which is a real No No) and had her bundled in a blanket on my lap. She just layed there being quiet. My seat mate didn't seem to be a dog person but I told him it was too cold for her to be down there where the air conditioning was so cold and he didn't say anything because she was sooooo good. After we landed, he said she was a very good puppy. On the next flight, I had a dog lover who flys her dog all the time. She helped hide the dog when the stewardess came by and the guy next to her said "who couldn't love that dog." They were great about it. You really are not supposed to take them out of the bag but she weighed two pounds and was so quiet that it worked. My daughter just flew in from Atlanta (to Florida) with her rescue (a maltese s**tzu mix six months old who weighs 6 pounds). She said her dog was really good throughout the flight (a little over 2 hours) and didn't make a peep. Good luck. I don't think you will have any problems. |

I recently flew with my girls however on this last trip I learned 1 pet per customer. I'm not sure if this is a new rule or not, I flew 12 months ago with 2 carriers, 2 pups. Make sure you have your health certificate, and purchase your puppy ticket in advance, not at the gate. The airlines only allow 3-5 pets per flight. You will have to take your puppy out of the carrier going through security. My last trip had a 10 hour delay so be prepared with food, water treats and I always bring baby wipes-and use them. |

We used to fly quite a bit with our Yorkie, from Chicago to Phoenix.....she is terrific, but one time she saw a kid in the United Red Carpet Lounge and went crazy in her carrier. Only time she ever did that....but on the plane she is great. My wife usually smuggles her out of the bag and on her lap...the flight attendants usually tell her she has to go back in the bag, so we cover her with a blanket....we have never yet been escourted off the plane. I Figure she is not a Terroritst Dog, and until we can kkeep those on the DO NOT FLY LIST off, we will let her out. She flew a lot as a puppy, and never a problem. Now she is almost 13, and has her own frequesnt flyer miles. We would get her her own seat but the airline will not sell her a ticket. We take her when we can, but have to board the big dog, or he gets driven! |
My sister in law flys with her yorkie, but, it always cost her $150 to just place her under the seat in a carrier. Has anyone else ever had to pay for your baby to be on the plane? Just wondering because I would like to fly some place with ours but not at that price. What is a Puppy ticket and how much are they? |
I can't even think of any airline where they fly free. From 75 to 150 each way. THere is now Pet Airlines if you are just going to ship the dog with out flying with it. They fly in the coach, with a person there to watch them. Is quite a few major cities now. The son of a friend of mine is a Pilot with them. |
it's 75 one way on Southwest! |
