Shipping a yorkie puppy by airline???
 

I am new to all of this yorkie information, & I have been looking for a new puppy for about a month now. The only reason I don't have one right now is because they are so pricey. I found an add in the Atlanta Classifieds that offered a 12 week old yorkie for free adoption. After contacting the owner through e-mail, she said she was giving them out for adoption because she has 2 new litters about to be born, & she wants to put all her attention to taking care of the new babies. She has advised me that I will only pay for the shipping & ownership transfer fee of $200. She stated that after she receives all of my information, that I will pay her shipping agency directly, & they will give me all the shipping information for the puppy. Does this sound legitimate to anyone? Is shipping a puppy safe? She says she has a pedigree certificate that comes with the puppy, so that means I can register him if I choose, right? Please help with any advice!! Thanks

It doesn't sound legitimate to me at all!
I can't imagine a reputable breeder turning over a 12 week Yorkie puppy for a total of $200, which is normally just the cost of shipping (even under normal shipping, I believe.)
Does this breeder have a website or where is the ad being published?
I mean if they are a breeder and this puppy is healthy, why wouldn't they be selling the puppy? I would be very leery that this is a scam or this is a puppymill or both!
I understand the frustration in wanting a Yorkie and the cost involved, but it's important to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder, otherwise you can end up spending a lot more money in the long run on vet bills, etc...
Not to mention you don't want to line the pockets of puppymill and bybs who don't do health screenings and aren't concerned about where their puppies are going and do not have health guarantees, etc..
Unfortunately Yorkies are a costly breed. They can be costly up front to purchase and their ongoing bills can be expensive.
Have you thought about rescue?

Scam....you will never see a puppy or your money, every. Quit looking for your puppy in the classifieds......check out breeders close to you. There are a lot of threads here for picking out good breeders and buying a puppy....Take your time.

No providing a pedigree with the puppy does not mean you can register....your puppy should come with AKC papers to register it.

Western Union provides a good service but is a scammers dream. Always use caution when when transacting business via wire transfer. Scammers like to do business this way because it's a very quick cash transport and there are no way to recall the funds. All that is required is 1 form of ID and in a scammers case 1 fradulant piece is easy to obtain. Make use of the internet and do your homework verify phone#'s, addresses, websites, vet references etc. I work in the banking industry and have witnessed many scams. I know buying a puppy is exciting and you may lose sight of reality for a moment so I suggest making a check list of things to verify before making a purchase via the internet. I'm glad you inquired on YT, don't hesitate to ask more questions, we are here to learn from each other.

Do NOT do this. I have read many comments online about this and people pay the money and never receive a puppy. When it seems too good to be true, it is! There are a lot of dishonest people selling onliine and you must not fall for their schemes. The reason they continue to do this is because they can!

Hi, don't jump too fast because the price is low. I totally agree with what the others have said, I went through your experience where the seller gave me a sad story but wanted me to forward the money through Western Union to England when they claimed to live in Ohio. :thumbdown It is better to wait and even if you do pay a little more you at least can be guaranteed that you will have a bundle of joy that is healthy and does exist. I don't know if this will be useful or not, but I found my Miloh on Puppies for Sale, Dogs for Sale and Dog Breeders After doing continuous research I met up with the breeder and got to see all the puppies and the environment they were in. If not, I'm pretty sure you can find a lovely yorkie on this site. It is best to be safe than sorry, hope this helps! :)

This is THE BEST advice to give to a first time Yorkie owner looking to buy a puppy.

If someone had given me that advice, We wouldn't have paid almost $1500 to get a (now) 12 pound, Yorkie (mix?) from a Backyard Breeder who disappeared off the face of the earth. They delivered, and that's another thing you hear that you are not supposed to do because you never meet the parents. We thought "how nice!" and they brought their kid with them who cried when my hubby bought the puppy while I was at work... How "cute".


You can get a cheap Yorkie, check out REAL Rescues or save up. We thought $850-900 was cheap for a Yorkie, but as I stated- it wasn't really that price at the end of the deal. We got scammed because they promised he had all these shots, and he didn't, and we had to pay for it etc. They also showed up with a higher price than what we agreed on. My husband just fell in love with Derby (they brought 2 pups with them) and he didn't care about price at that point.

I love my dog, but for that price I should have a max-7 pound purebred Yorkie. We don't even know if he's just a poorly bred Yorkie over standard, or if he's a mix. We love him, but damn that was a lot of money for what we got.

One really good clue that it's not legit is that they quoted you $200 to ship... check it out for yourself. I think it's higher than that $275+ Not to mention that I don't think you want your brand new puppy flying in the cargo area of an airplane.

If it's too good to be true - then it is. No one is giving away free purebred Yorkies - not even a rescue. If someone is giving away a dog - there's usually a reason. Make sure you're aware of that reason and can you handle it.

If you want a good dog (any breed) you really should do some checking around for "average" prices, good breeders, and breed standards. It's a lot of work but it pays off in the end.

Don't do it!! I think it's a scam too. Besides, don't you want to see the puppy and his/her parents? Either get a rescue or save up your money for a puppy from a reputable breeder and do your research. I bought my first yorkie from an ad in the paper. Even though I saw the puppy's mom & grandmother and met the lady who was breeding them, the puppy had many health problems later. (Didn't know at the time the difference between a backyard breeder and a reputable one, which is why I'm telling you to do your research) By 2, Frankie had vertigo, heart problems and a severe allergy to dust mites. Never mind the all of the vet bills, it was heart breaking watching him suffer. He passed away when he was only 8. It's not worth it.

Now getting a 12 pound dog can happen, what was awful was that you were scammed with a mixed breed dog that didn't have shots. Worst of all the breeder disappearing off the face of the earth.

Besides not buying from the classifieds, looking for a good deal. Your first step when looking for your new family addition. Is finding a good breeder; You buy your breeder first, one that will be there for the rest of your pups life. If you don't feel comfortable with the breeder, walk away. You are buying a relationship, the deal doesn't end when you walk out that door with your pup.

Find a breeder that is at least in driving distance. Anybody can put up a nice website and put anything on it.

I have a friend, an exhibitor who was entering the show world again after a long break, with yorkies as her new chosen breed. Thinking things were as they were when she left the show world, you could trust who you were dealing with, after all that's how it use to be. She purchased 3 show dogs via a website. Well a well known exhibitor visited her home, and not knowing where she had obtained her dogs....pointed to those 3 dogs (and a one more ) and told her to rehome them as pets. Now my friend had on several occassions told the original breeder that these dogs had not turned out as what was promised to her. The breeder refused to refund her money, giving her this excuse and that excuse. So, 17 thousand dollars later, yep that's what she'd payed for them (she'd been conned and scammed) she had these dogs spayed/nuetered and placed in wonderful pet homes....

I have to agree with the others, it sounds like/is a scam. As far as cost goes, have you tried the rescue groups in your area? There are many pups waiting to be adopted and go to a nice forever home. The pups will be up to date on their shots, spayed/nuetered before they are adopted out. If you are looking for a yorkie that is registered with the AKC and has papers then you need to find a good breeder in your area. Ask the YT members in the breeders or the rescue forums for more help.
