new here.. hello, i just bought a six month old 2.5 lb yorkie. she is the solid gold, or blonde color. question is, is it okay to feed a high quality can such as canidae with out mixing dry? |
Welcome to YT. :) Yes, it is okay, but you will also get a whole bunch of people that tell you it isn't because it's bad for their teeth. I would say read the research, decide if that's true, and then make the best choice for you and your pup. Whatever you feed, pup's teeth should be brushed often. |
I have heard as long as she has hard stuff to chew on its ok to feed wet food. But I am no expert! |
Oh and Welcome to YT!!! |
kibble kibble & more kibble Hi there~ as to your question, our Vet has always stressed that my pups NEEDED a dry kibble for the health of their teeth. i ran into that same question because i have 1 picky eatin' puppy!! i would literally coat the kibble in moist food and my lil' rascal would lick ALL the dry bits clean of the moist food and leave it right in the bowl!!! he just hated ANY dry food and i've tried them ALL, i'm almost ashamed to say the ONLY dry food he would eat is Beneful puppy:eek: just keep trying but it's my understanding that pups NEED a dry food. Good Luck:animal-pa |
Hey! Welcome to YT! I also have a solid gold yorkie girl (Paris) a black and gold boy and they just had a gold little boy (Napoleon)! Always great to meet other owners with the same coloring because it's harder to find! I'm fairly new as well so I hope to see you around YT and see pictures of your baby! Hope you enjoy your time here! There are so many friendly and knowledgeable people willing to help out with any questions and to talk endlessly about all things yorkie! Welcome!! Yaay! Have a great day! |
I feed dry Canidae to all my puppers and they love it. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk!!!!! Glad to have you here!!!! :) |
Welcome!! |
thank you everyone. happy to be here. i have done lots of research myself, and have found that there is no reason that hard kibble helps teeth at all. actually, it may be the other way around. anyways, i just want my little one to eat her fill of what she likes. so decided to go with high quality can. |
Pups or older dogs do not need a dry kibble!! They need something hard to chew on though, like a beef femur bone or even those Himalayan Dog Chews. Himalayan Dog Chew Small 3.5oz I have home cooked for over 50 years and have nothing but excellent results with their health, skin and coat without medical problems. The food is of course soft, so they get the beef femur bones. I have the butcher cut them into short pieces. For puppies, I'd go with 1". My two oldest dogs are 5 years and still don't need a dental cleaning! |
