Bella - No Tail When I first joined here I mentioned it but it hasn't come up since. My Lone Star Bella really doesn't have a tail. NO she wasn't born that way. She was the product of a lady breeding two pets and her husband was to cheap to pay a vet and docked the tails himself! If that wasn't bad enough he cut them way to short and during healing their little tales all but disappeared. The vet said he was lucky because if it had been shorter it might have caused physical problems. (what a dipstick) When I went to see the litter that was one of the first things I asked and boy did I read him the riot act. I can't believe someone would risk a dog for a few bucks. As it is I bought Bella because I got her for a very good pet price and we were looking for a pet. Good thing since I couldn't show her with no tail, right? She was a doll then and only gets better. She is a happy and healthy pup and I am thrilled with her but I wonder if anyone else has almost a no tail yorkie or is she UNIQUE. I know there are at least 4 others because she was from a litter of 5 and he did this to all of them.:animal36 |
Username Banditsocks2... her dog Bandit pretty much has no tail, poor little guy, she always says he has tail envy ;) LOL, but you might wanna talk to her... Bandit is such a cutie, it doesn't matter! Jackson has his full tail so we're all off standard haha :) |
Yes, I got my TrixieBelle from a breeder who does her own tails. Like your dog, she basically has no tail. It's very sad, my others all have docked tails done properly and to see her trying to wag hers and this dog was not cheap. Obviously, the breeder was :mad: |
One here too. My girlie has what I call her nub, LOL. It's small and my breeder does have the litters done by her regular veh, go figure. Some grow big and some grow small...haha. Sound familar...just like people. Zhoie has so much hair, it make is really hard to see her tail, but you can see it waggle. |
I'm so sorry to hear this, this is another reason that people should only suport experienced/knowledgeable breeders. Docking should only be done by those who have the proper knowledge; and I'm horrified, when people read a thread on YT and then think they have enough knowledge to dock! Good breeders learn by attending classes, and having mentors, they should be trained to dock properly, and so many breeders cut the tail way too short. I love the look of a properly docked tail, but I wish that there were some type of certification that had to be passed in order to be able to do it. I also think it should only be done within a certain time frame. Sorry your baby went through this, and I hope bad breeders don't ruin it for everyone. |
One of ours basically doesn't have a tail. It actually got infected when it was docked, ended up having to be docked some more. :( There's little nub there, but you can see it because of all of the fur...so it looks like there is no tail at all, just a waggy, shaking booty! :p |
When Bella is excited or playing you can see a little nub but most of the time she looks like a little brown bear or a Sheepdog! Adorable ...but wrong. |
Brody has a nub . . .or as we like to call him "irontail" :p I think his breeder could of left it a bit longer . . .but when he's running and prancing around he holds up his little nub and seems so proud . . . |
I have a girl with a nubby tail. Ironically, her tail was docked by a vet that also breeds Yorkies. Aw, poor little girl!! I bet her little butt wiggles instead. I agree what a dipstick!! I am glad you have her now and she is in a home where she is loved and spoiled. Not all breeders dock the tails just to be cheap. I realize it was in your case though. I dock all my puppies tails and remove the dewclaws myself. I had a horrible experience with my first litter watching the vet do it. I was so traumatized by it all that I decided there was no way I would ever let a vet do it again. Oh and a quick fyi, most vets will most likely dock the tail too short as they aren't taught breed standards. Some breeds require the tails to be docked shorter but the yorkie tail is suppose to be docked to medium length. My two pups that I kept from my first litter would have just nubs if I hadn't stepped in and told them to leave more of the tail as the vet wanted to cut it much shorter. I learned how to do the tails and dewclaws and my pups are so much better off because of it. I will say I dock them to the proper length, no nubs here. And there is no blood, no scarring and no trauma to the puppy. |
Zaccheus was docked by our vet, but she took off almost all of it. I don't think she meant to take off so much. He has a cotton coat, so when he's all fluffy, he looks like he has no tail at all. |
My vet told me that many people make the mistake of pulling out on the tail when they are cutting and that makes it seem longer, then when they cut it off, it recedes back and they are left with a tail shorter than they wanted. He also said that if you cut a tail to short you can cause incontinence and other problems. From what I have read the proper length to cut would be half the length of the original tail but I know that if I ever have a litter I will make darn sure the vet KNOWS where I want them cut. I won't just leave it to his judgement. It actually wouldn't have bothered me if she had been left with a full length tail. |

Samy has a small tail but he does have one.. but one can tell that it is shorter than medium length.. but he is sooo cute with it :) he definitely cannot catch it hahahah At first when I bought him I did not notice but a few hours later i was like.. oh no.. where is his tail? will it grow? and later on after reading more info about tail docking realized that he was just cut shorter than normal and it will not grow any longer.. |
:( my poor baby only has a stub also, but at least he can wag it a bit. I actually thought yorkies were born this way until I joined this site. Dah, how stupid am I! |
