Holy crackin nuts!! Help Just picked up my little girl from the vet after being spayed. Instructions: No running, jumping, playing with her best friend, etc. for 7 - 10 days!!! How in the world am I going to manage that??? |
Was her incision stitched, or glued. The reason I asked is because that makes a difference in the recovery restrictions. My little Bella was stitched and had no restrictions beyond when she was no longer groggy from the anasthesia. (Basically, next day no restrictions). I was surprised, and I didn't really expect her to be too active anyway. When I had surgery, I didn't want to move, much less run and jump for a few weeks. Didn't stop her though. A friend had her dog spayed around the same time, and her incision was closed with a surgical glue. Her dog was on the restrictions for a week or so. Regardless, hope your little girl is up and around soon. |
best of luck keeping her quiet. You should try your best as it is just a short period of time for the best results in the long run for the health of your little girl. I am surprised your vet didn't go over this with you prior to surgery. Good luck! :) |
Curious to know if anyone's babies were spayed using laser? That is what Twinkie will be going through very soon. The Vet said it is so much easier on the babies. :rolleyes: |
Oh dear! I feel you pain!!!:) My hyper active, defiant, baby was spayed last Friday and she had the same instructions. The day after, I tried putting her in her ex pen. She wasn't having any of that!! Jumping, crying, digging, etc. So, I let her out and tried my best to keep her activity contained. It has not been easy. She will let me pick her up to be on my bed or sofa and put her down, but I can't keep her from running and playing with Moka. Get this....Moka goes out and stands at the door crying and barking unitl I let Mylee out. Mylee won't go out without Moka!!:D It is so pathetic. Thank goodness I am on day 5 because I know this has bothered me more than it has her. Good luck, because I have no good advice for ya. Oh, I don't know what procedure was used. I think she was glued, there are no stitches but it is a very tiny incision. |

Getting neutered didn't bother Puddie too much; he was pretty much his ol' self the next day (after the anesthesia was all gone). Bella wasn't much worse ... she was glued. To try to keep her quiet, I carried her a lot. She thinks she's a diva anyway, so being transported just reinforced it in her mind. She uses stairs, and won't get off the couch or the bed without them. So all I have to do is move them out of the way, and she's TRAPPED! Of course, being trapped on a king-size bed isn't all that bad .... Good luck. It will be hard to keep her quiet, but maybe you could try for ust not too rambunctious? No rousing games of "fetch" ... ;) |
I'm with everyone else on this one.....the most important word is containment! My Daisy had the dissolveable stitches and was peachy fine on day two! If she could run and jump, she did. I just counted myself lucky that she wasn't miserable with a long recovery............... Best wishes................ |

She was happy enough to just be carried around and watch the action. ) but at home, I never managed to keep her from running or jumping up and down the furniture. Or chasing the cat! :) |

Good luck! Roxy was back to 100% the following day. The more I restricted her the more bonkers she got & was worse on herself than usual. Out of desparation, I let her go back to normal routine where she was much quieter. There were times I crated her for awhile so she would just rest quietly, but trying to restrict her just made her more hyper. You'll want to play it by ear, and see how she does. |

You do realize that the glue is only on the TOP layer and they all have stitches internally. The dermabond (glue) is only in place of stitches externally. |
