Hey just looking for support on neutering ( after previous loss) Hey!!!! I have been in here a long time and those of yall that know me know that I lost skoshi 2 yrs ago to being neutered.... The vet didn't do bloodwork or anything and I should have known what questions to ask... Well my boy now needs to be neutered... I'm mostly doing it because he has Many retained baby teeth that you can see hurts him and I know they gotta come out so if he's going under once he might as well have it all done... I now have a new vet and although pricey I do love them... They let me not vaccinate every year but every three yrs which I love... Also they do pre anestetic bloodwork.. If I choose the vets choice option which is more expensive they use propofol to get him tubed and then they use iso the gas to keep them under... I have to drop him off between 8 and 830 and they will call mr around noon to update me... They said the neuter take 10 to 15 mins and the dental takes about 30... Cago is 6 pds... I really just need to feel like I'm making the right decision because I'm super scared... |
Sorry to hear about your previous loss, it is heart breaking. My thoughts are with you, and your little boy. Keep happy positive thoughts, and don't show your baby that you are afraid. Be brave, for both of you!:) |
I am so very sorry for the loss of your other little one. If your vet is familiar with treating small animals then you should have no problems. It sounds as though you have done your research. :) Please let us know how he does. He'll be fine. :) Hugs. |
Thanks so much im trying not to be selfish but I feel like he has a happy life and I could take it away so quick by making this decision... His appointment is this coming Monday.. |
I'm not going to get into the neuter part b/c that is a personal decision after research of the pros and cons. He'll have to be under anyway for the dental, and that really does need to be done or it can just lead to more serious issues. Propofol and Iso is a great protocol. Do you know if they place an IV and use a heat source to keep them warm? If he is only around six months old, you may be able to wait awhile to see if the teeth come out on their own if you just aren't ready to do this...I can't say what I'd do in your case b/c I can't even imagine. :( |
I know how apprehensive you must feel-even though I haven't suffered such a loss as you have. You sound like the vet you have now really has all his ducks in a row. I remember how worried I was when I had Neo neutered and his baby teeth out, but God was watching out for him! Hang in there and let us know how it went.:) |
No he is 2 yrs old... So yea his teeth gotta come out... They give an intravenous catheter and intravenous fluids not sure about the heating pad. I honestly would probably never get him neutered if it wasn't for the fact that he has to go under for his teeth so I might as well do it... |
This is such personal decision. But I want to wish you luck on what ever it is you decide. I feel your pain.. Sophie needs to be spayed and I've been dragging my feet, but in my case, having an unaltered male at home it is the right thing to do. ...actually I have another 3 unaltered males at home that I wasn't counting :p |
I'm glad that you do have a new vet and I'm sure they know your history and will take very good care of him. |
Yes I have 2 unspayed females at home... And honestly I don't feel as afraid to get my female spayed but I felt like my males needs his teeth done so bad so I chose him first.. |
Sending prayers and support your way. I remember when you lost him. I understand your reticence and please know that we are here to support you.:) |
Im sorry to hear you had a bad experience, I think you went through every ones nightmare when we make that decision for our furbabys to go under. My little boy Ollie had the surgery last Wed and is recovering well. His stitches come out this Sat and was running around on day 2! He also had one tooth extraction also. Don't beat yourself up about the bloodwork , as far as I know they don't do it at all here in the uk, well Ivenever been offered it with my two. Sending positive thoughts to you and your baby. xx |
I am with you on this one. I have bred yorkies for years and this past summer I had a teenie tiny little girl. She has health issues (scoliosis, enlarged heart, lung issues) and I chose to keep her here instead of rehoming her. She is almost 9 months old and weighs one and a half pounds. This is the little girl I had to do CPR on about 2 months ago from aspirating antibiotics for her teeth (clindamyacin). Her teeth are now infected again as her adult teeth are trying to come in and are pushing her baby ones sideways into her cheeks and it has become painful to her. I now must get her teeth pulled and will go ahead and spay her at that time. I am scared to death. The vets have already told me she has a short life expectancy and I have been treating her like a queen. So tomorrow she goes in for the dental and the spay and her chances are low that she will make it through the surgery. So I will pray for your little one and mine too... |
Omg yorkielady06 I will definately pray for your baby.... I know you are just sick over all of it, I am too... For you to be so strong and have her go through the same situation makes me feel better definately.... Please let me know how it goes tomorrow you can pm me... You know when you are young you never had to worry about any of this.. Your parents just always took our pets and picked them up no problem lol and now we gotta go through all this... |

To the OP, I know this is hard, even though I felt it was a very safe procedure for a healthy dog, you can't help worrying, I'm glad you have made this decision, and are taking care of his teeth, but I know how scary it is. My prayers are with you too. |

SO happy everything went well!! Your relief must be HUGE. I've been watching for an update. Thank you so much for letting us all know :D! |
Congrats to both furbabies and their Mommies that the surgery is over and both had a happy ending. My 9 month old Izzy has a lot of extra baby teeth that have to come out. I am making the appt. for her surgery tomorrow. Starting to stress about it already. |
Yeah I thought cago had lots of retained baby teeth but they said they had to take out 3 |
How much does he weigh?? My Vet had my female on fluids and did blood work during the procedure because she was so small. I think if they do that there won't be a problem. It sounds like you picked a better Vet. You did nothing wrong the last time...the Vet should have known what to do. I'm so sorry for your loss. Congrats on your new addition. I'm sure it will all go smoothly. :) |
So glad your baby did great!!! |
Thanks everyone |
Think positive thoughts, I will pray for you. Things will be fine.:animal-pa:) Patches & Winnie |
