i wanted to post this link because the permethrin is what made Gatsby sick last year and now i am very careful of flea treatment.
i'm begging fellow Yorkie owners to read the ingredients on your flea meds.

OMG!! I just read it! So what do you do about flea and tick protection? I was using k9 advantix and was going to switch bc of the permathin in it.
Frontline has a big weight difference 1-22 lbs omg that is a big diffference. I wonder if you could use half and still have it work.

Any chemical you put on your dog only goes into the blood stream. Never could understand why anyone would do that to a pet. Anyway I've posted this a zillion times, but here it is again:

I know the article talks about "spot-on" treatments but does anyone know about Comfortis??

I stopped using frontline for Mitzy (and my weimaraner) years ago and switched to Comfortis but now I'm worried about what might be in that?? :confused::(

I have been using only half on mine for over a year... I split one between my two each month.... in that time we have not seen one flea.

thanks for the tip on fleas. i know i don`t like to use most of the flea products on molly. she is so tiny. think i will try the garlic juice. when i fry her a hambuger i put garlic powder on it an she likes that. she don`t get it very often but for a treat once in awhile.

We have never used flea and tick products and we have never had a flea or tick problem on our dogs. I don't know if diet plays a role in this or not but we have never had to use those types of products. I always thought Boog didn't have fleas because of the meds he took for his thyroid but when we got the others they've never had fleas or ticks either.

i use a organic all natural essential oils home and yard spray and put a little tea tree oil in there shampoo if i see a flea i dish soap bath and mop the house in bleach. it works for me but might not if you have a bad flea infestation.

I gave my vet an article about toxicity related to advantage etc. She said she had not heard of it, would read it and get back to me. She never did. I don't use chemical flee prevention. Last year I got the girls "shoo tags" and they worked great. No chemicals at all and they worked for my girls for the whole summer. You can buy them at amazon.com and other online stores. They might seem a bit pricey but no more than the chemicals end up costing and probably less.

I'm no longer in charge of my surroundings like I was in a house when my husband was alive - I HATE using these products but it's a necessity - I walk my 2 daily and we have stray cats in the apartment complex that no one takes care of and the first year I was here we got a minor case of fleas -

Frontline nipped it and I only saw one flea total but with summer coming in texas - I already dread it - it's inevitable and I have no choice to use something

I wish there was a safe effective way to prevent them - but so far - I've had no luck with natural

In 8 years - I've never dealt with flea problems and never every used anything -till now. it sucks but what would suck worse is seeing my 2 miserable - just ONE FLEA can drive them crazy and where there is one - there's more

I think your vet is trying to make you comfortable - they're ALL toxic to a degree. Which is why I wish with all the geniuses in the world - why can't someone come up with a NON TOXIC flea preventative that actually WORKS

When I treated my yard I never ever had fleas with any of my pets. NEVER

PS - NEVER EVER USE HARTZ PRODUCTS - they're the absolute worst -

I think Biospot is the worst you could possible use. After it caused seizures in my Becca, I did my research and found that it had killed many cats and dogs. That stuff terrifies me!

I've started using the Frontline spray. The amount to apply varies by weight, and I've found that only half of the directed amount works to control fleas/ticks in my area. I feel much safer using this smaller dose on my babies. When I used the individual applicators, my vet told me to split it between them based on their weights and that always worked well for us.
