Today Has Started Out Horrible! I work in a high school and there is a student in here talking about a chiuaua puppy she purchased in a pet store and that he is very sick and doesn't have much energy and has diarrea and blood in his stool. OMG I just wanna throw up right now. And all she is concerned about is how much money she is spending on this dog at the vet . . . I totally want to say, bring him in, I'll take him. He obviously needs to be cared for. I asked her if he eats and she said "barely" I told her it was important for her to get him treatment ASAP! I seriously wanna cry right now!:( |
Don't you think she should take him back to the place where she got him, and ask for assistance in caring for this pup? |
It is sad because the only reason she really bought the dog is probably because it looked good in her purse. She doesn't have enough brains to know that you need to take care of it. |
This is soo very sad!!!! So sad :( Silly childish youngsters just wanting to show off their fancy expensive dogs and when something is wrong start hating the world around them :( so sad! |
She said she called the pet store and they told her after she gets the diagnosis they will pay for some of the medical bills . . . She is really aggravating me right now . . .seriously! I just gave her the name of a really good vet here in Town and that she needs to get this dog in ASAP. This vet will also be able to work with her on paying for his services. I really hope she takes my advice. |
Let's hope so!!! |
What the helicopter is wrong with her parents???? I hope they aren't going to let that pup suffer to teach the kid a lesson! |
Why do parents allow kids to buy living accessories? I am sorry that you had to listen to this person, but hopefully her parents will also, and get the pup to the vets asap. |

She lives with her boyfriend believe it or not . . .They are both high school seniors . . .so her parents aren't involved at all. |

Saying a prayer for this pup. Dosen't sound like there's an authority figure involved in this story. Sad. Poor little guy. Oh how I hate reading stories like this. Just sticks in your mind all day long. I can just imagine how upset you must be. |

Just wanted to give you all an update. The student came to me this morning and told me she had brought the pup to the vet I recommended and that he kept him overnight. The vet told her the pup had parvo. :( She is going to return the pup to the pet store. So sad, very sad. She didn't even seem to really care at all. |
Oh no. I suspected when you said bloody diarrhea that it was probably parvo. The petstore should have all their animals checked because liikely that all were exposed and could get sick. Wonder if animal control or the SPCA could do something to keep them from being able to sell anything until all are checked and cleared and the shop is completely sanitized |

Please tell her to fight the Petstore to PAY the bills for his treatment... If she returns the pup, THEY WILL PUT THE PUP TO SLEEP....:( :( :( |

Just to put this into perspective~this puppy was removed from a puppymill WAY TOO YOUNG, shipped across the country in a big truck full of other puppies taken way too young. Because he was not properly vaccinated prior to being shipped he was exposed to parvo somewhere along the way. He was then taken to this pet shop and sold for BIG money to a teenage girl who has a pocket full of money and makes an impulse buy. Puppy gets sick and she has no knowledge. Puppy turns up sick and diagnosed with parvo. Puppy is returned to his DEATH to the pet shop~cheaper to let his die that to treat him. :( Wonder how many other puppies were also infected along the way. :( |

Just the fact that she is just a teenager goes deeper than brain power. I agree that many teenagers may have the heart to take care of a pet and the willingness but even if they do, most do not have a deep pocket to pay for serious vet bills. Sadly she probably spent very big $$ to buy from a pet shop because they are notorious for ripping people off and also notorious for selling sick pets. Once the cute wears off or a pet becomes a liability many times people see them as a stone around their necks and will more than likely turn their backs and walk away. I think selling live animals from pet stores should be against the law. |
Thats so sad...I could never buy a puppy from a pet store. I feel so sorry for them when I pass by I try not to look. It just kills me. Sending prayers for the little one. |

 Good GRIEF!!! This explains why she is so heartless. She has no guidance. Unless their parents are deceased, permanently hospitalized, abusive, or homeless they are wrong to have allowed teenagers to be shacking up playing grown up. |
To the OP, why don't you offer to help this girl with fighting the petshop? I'm sure animal control would be interested to know about the shop with the parvo outbreak. Perhaps you can also try to use this opportunity to teach this young girl an important lesson. At least she took the pup to the vet you recommended, so it doesn't seem like she doesn't want your help. |

And I'm sorry Jennxling took offense to the teenager comment. You're probably older, if not wiser than most teenagers and it sounds like you try to be responsible. Consider yourself the exception to the rule. BUT, I work with students, most teenagers and I cannot fathom the idea that two are shaking up like adults. I don't think I'm capable and I'm older. I see this "ME" generation just wanting to satisfy their every whim and not thinking ahead. It's what I see and stories like this (and trust me I have more!) pretty much tell you the same thing. |
I do agree that most Teens are selfish and not the best to care for a small dog but there are many that are exceptions. After all she did take the dog to the vet that was recommended but probably does not have the funds to pay the additional money required to care for this pup especially after paying high pet shop prices. I feel sorry for this puppy because if she does return him he doesn't stand a chance. Just wanted to make that I was 17 when I bought my first yorkie. Unfortunantly I did not know better and purchased my Georgie from a backyard breeder. He was alittle roached back but other than that he weighed 6.5 lbs and looked very much like a yorkie. He was the best little dog around, He was smart, easy to train and the love of my life. I lost him at the age of 16. I was responsible for all of his vet bills and his daily care. It taught me a lot of responsibilty. |

Well, you tried, that's all you can do I guess. Hopefully the pup will not be put down, and maybe, just maybe, in the future she will think twice about buying from a pet shop. You said you worked at her HS, are you a teacher? Or maybe you can try to talk to some teachers and see if they can put some puppymill awareness (videos or something) into the lesson plan one of these days. People hear about them, but usually not until they see videos do they really get it. I dunno, just a thought. |
